Hi all,

It was suggested that I trundle my random thoughts over here - came about from the Large, Languishing Group Loans thread, though it's probably more applicable to "ageing" loans in general.  I hope all makes at least some sense  Embarrassed

Rather than having the Lend page load with entrepreneurs automatically ranked by popularity, having them automatically load in the "old-to-new" order may be more effective for getting older loans moving.  As Soriak noted in the thread, research has found that many people tend to leave things on a default setting, so that a much larger proportion of lenders may consider loaning to older loans before they even view the newer entries.  Automatically loading in the old-to-new order would also help to address the minor annoyance of having loans just viewed appearing on the next page as new loans are made.

Alternatively, perhaps it could be made possible that individual lenders may adjust their default viewing settings so that entrepreneurs always load in their chosen manner, rather than always in the popularity order.  Since it's easy to forget to change settings each time one logs in, this might contribute a small way to helping along the older loans.

Well...sorry to ramble on - again, hope I made a bit of sense!  I'm pretty new around here, so sorry if this has been suggested before  Huh?

One thing you can do on your own (until this suggestion is implemented by Kiva's developers) is go to the lending page, choose settings that you like and then bookmark those searches.

Then you can use those bookmarks to view loans in the way you'd like to see them.

For example, I use the following link in my bookmarks entitled "African Women, New to Old":

http://www.kiva.org/app.php?page=businesses&queryString=&status=fundRaising&gender=Female&sectors%5B%5D=All&regions%5B%5D=Africa&sortBy=New+to+Old

I hope this helps.
