Ann and David, your acts and generosity will deeply touch some of them for sure, and probably their parents as well! Maybe some will only realize the meaning and the impact a little later, further on down the line. I don't think that diminishes it though; it can last a really long time!
Bravo and Kudos to you both!!!

I think we're pretty realistic about the project. Of the 23 students, I'm guessing half of them were listening and maybe 6 of them heard what I was saying. Since I've already talked to one girl, who is going to nursing school with the goal of working abroad doing Good Works, I'll go out on a limb and say that 2 from that class will come close to Getting It. At least a dozen of the grownups, either parents, family or school staff, have approached us with thanks, so we know that *someone* was listening and realized the import of it all. And and and, I spoke with the superintendent (who used to be the principal at Shead) who had only vaguely heard of Kiva, but declared that she was going to look into it, so that made me happy. Also, a counselor caught us in the parking lot as we were leaving to tell us that one of her hard case students, a boy whose parents didn't even show up for Class Day, and who didn't get doodly squat for awards or scholarships, was overwhelmed at the check that came from strangers. So we know it was a good idea, and if the economy doesn't collapse and we are ALL living under the bridge this time next year, we'll do it again. I'm especially looking forward to working with the incoming freshman next year, so they can get in on this as a group, from the get-go. Thanks again, everyone. Ann

Wow, what you did was a really great thing. I just finished my junior year and I'll be lucky if at least one of the speeches at my graduation next year is as inspirational as that one. As I teenager myself I can say with confidence that you definatly got through to some of them, even if they didn't show it. Even if most of them don't go on to become KivaAdicts your generous gift still affected and helped them and most of them are very grateful for it. We (teenagers) aren't great at expressing our graditude in general but even if we don't express that graditude we still feel it. Dana

Ann, you bowled me over! We can only imagine how many people around the world your gestures of love will impact. I hope this video can give you a small taste of our gratitude.

"Our daughters can contribute just as much to society as our sons, and our common prosperity will be advanced by allowing all humanity - men and women - to reach their full potential. I do not believe that women must make the same choices as men in order to be equal, and I respect those women who choose to live their lives in traditional roles. But it should be their choice. That is why the United States will partner with any Muslim-majority country to support expanded literacy for girls, and to help young women pursue employment through micro-financing that helps people live their dreams." - President Barack Obama, June 4, 2009

Yeah, Kerry, my (unstated) goal was 1 out of 23 kids. Already, 3 have redeemed, and I think at least two more are likely. So I'm happy.
