My family is already registered and active with KIVA. I have been asked to set-up a group (middle school) registration using my e-mail address. I have no issue with this, but when I tried to do so, KIVA rejected the group registration because my e-mail is already in use within KIVA. I do not want to blend the school's activities in with our families. How do I keep them separate, but with my common e-mail? The teacher organizing this is not returning (budget cuts), and the next grade's teacher is undetermined. I will be forwarding all their e-mails at a later date when I know the new teacher and thus new e-mail address ... meanwhile I need to invest the funds they've already raised.
Does anyone please have any ideas for getting my e-mail address to work in this second (group) registration? School finishes next week, and I need to have this done before then, so the teacher can advise his students of the progress/loans.
Many thanks

It is true that you cannot register a single email address for more than one Kiva account.

I would recommend setting up another neutral email, for instance a gmail.com account, and use it for the group loan, then transfer that email to the new teacher when they arrive.  (If you make it a neutral email name, like "FourthGradeB" or something, the new teacher could just change the password and assume the new email address and the Kiva.org account together.)

Just a thought....  And welcome to KivaFriends!

Or just create another email account with the ISP you currently use.  ISPs typically allow several email addresses per household--then you can continue to receive all your email, from both accounts, in the same place.

Robert -

I'm just curious...  Your last post suggested funding the new account by using Paypal to funnel through the existing private account to buy gift certificates and then using those gift certificates to add credit to the new school account.  Is there any particular reason I'm missing why you wouldn't just directly fund the new account using your private Paypal account?  As far as I'm aware, I didn't think there was any type of permanent linking created that would expose the Paypal account if this was done directly.  I was just thinking this would save a step.

Becky, thank you for your information. I thought that the link from Kiva to PayPal transfers the e-mail address and that it cannot be changed. I tried just know and it works. So I deleted my previous post because it leads to confusion. Sorry.

I like Diane's suggestion best.  And then i would fund the new account (until it's taken over by a perm person) using Gift Certificates.

advantage:    new email on yahoo or gmail will not have any cost associated with it.  If you go with your ISP(Internet Service Provider) and one day decide to change ISP's then there will be changes involved.   I know Yahoo has a forwarding feature and imagine the others do as well, so you can 'short term' have all emails forwarded to your own so you don't have to check two emails.

Thank you all for your suggestions.
We are on gmail, and will see about getting a new address set up.
I just need to clarify what Robert and Henry are saying about the PayPal account (which I'd not thought as far as). Robert seems to indicate I'll be able to use my current PayPal setting (my credit card) with the new group registration to pay for the school's investments? Henry seems to indicate it won't, but to work around by sending Gift Certificates from our family account to the group account?

Gosh - turning out to be more complicated than we'd all anticipated!

As a secondary question, what's the rationale behind not being able to use the same e-mail address in multiple accounts? I'm sending gift certificates to nieces and nephews. When they register to use them, they'll want to have their own registrations, but for internet safety reasons, will use their parent's e-mail address. Does this mean they'll not be able to register for themselves unless they create new e-mail addresses - or provide their own?
Cheers

it will probably work that way (I know it works that way, I used to fund KSC's accounts using my paypal), using your own paypal account, however there might be advantages to the GC's in the following way:

1.  Tax deduction (maybe)
2.  The history on the account will never have any of your very personal info linked to that account(not that it would matter probably) this matters (maybe again) if one day you will release this account to someone else.

I've started funding KSC with GC's.

whichever way you do it....  well DONE!  I hope the students learn and enjoy from KIVA!  Thumbs Up

Each account does require it's own unique email the way KIVA is currently set up.  This is a situation where more gmail accounts might need to be set up for the family.  Thank goodness for the free email accounts!

1. The post I just deleted was about gift certificates used to transfer money from one account to another. It works, but Becky's way is easier. When you are directed from Kiva (school account) to PayPal, you can login into any PayPal account (your private account).

2. Your account number with Kiva *is* your e-mail address, so it must obviously be unique.

Robert

EDIT: Henry was faster. When you fund the school account through your private Kiva account, be sure that you transfer the money to the school account before starting to lend. You cannot transfer loans from one account to another, as Kiva has no platform for a secondary trading market.
