It is, in my opinion, a pity that this idea keeps being resuscitated. I have read, and tried to understand, all the arguments put forward, and still find it a thoroughly bad idea. It is just not Kiva, and I imagine that few of us would want it, in any form, and few of us would think it practicable, in any form. Let's just bury it, at least until circumstances change.

Howard,

I think it might be best to leave well enough alone for the interest.  It would be a NIGHTMARE to figure out which country each person had to have records for taxes or whatever else as a financial institution.  Disclosures and so on.  And I might get 3% or $12 a year.

If people want interest, then there is always MicroPlace from Ebay.  This segments the market for investing in Microloan institutions into distinct type--interest bearing with few stories or photos, and Kiva that has only emotional rewards.

Colette,

I totally agree. It would be great if this thread died right HERE!
