This isn't from a Kiva Friend -- though it might be, I haven't looked --
but my sainted spouse saw it today on Daily Kos, and it really
touched me, especially given some of the discourse lately:

"I never considered a difference of opinion in politics, in religion,
in philosophy, as cause for withdrawing from a friend."

I certainly hope the personal isn't leached out of the kiva experience little by little over time.  I think it would be a terrible mistake.  The reason it works at all is because it's personal.

Quote
Leadership is a long term relationship. Listening builds relationships and makes you a more effective leader. When a person is heard fully and completely, without interruption, without debate, they are more likely to feel trust in you. They are far more likely to be receptive to whatever ideas you would like them to consider – whether it is a request you are making of them or whether it is an opinion you would like to share with them.

-Michael Schutzler

I don't think it is a real word, but the only thing I keep thinking is that I feel unheard.

"Our daughters can contribute just as much to society as our sons, and our common prosperity will be advanced by allowing all humanity - men and women - to reach their full potential. I do not believe that women must make the same choices as men in order to be equal, and I respect those women who choose to live their lives in traditional roles. But it should be their choice. That is why the United States will partner with any Muslim-majority country to support expanded literacy for girls, and to help young women pursue employment through micro-financing that helps people live their dreams." - President Barack Obama, June 4, 2009

Even after the majority of people in a country are out of extreme poverty, the precedence and existence of socially oriented banks, business training, etc will continue to positively impact the society, and provide good examples for other socially responsible businesses.

Many roads lead to Rome and "Kiva Nirvana" (my new name for being able to give many loans without having to send more money).
