G'day Joe - The sexually mature males have a sort of musky "curry powder" smell, but I don't find it unpleasant - and you wouldn't want a 6 ft old man kangaroo in the house (or yard) anyway.

Females have a similar odour, but very faint. When  young they have virtually no smell at all provided they are well and groom themselves as they should. Oh, and kangaroos cool themselves by licking their forearms, they also do this to excess when under stress.

The grey kangaroo females (both Western and Eastern species) are fastidious groomers and use grooming in the same manner as monkeys, to bond and strengthen friendships. The youngsters do it to their human foster parents - they like to touch your face - particularly nose and lips, with their hands and they will spend long periods looking into your eyes while they touch and feel. In a wild mob this behaviour is very pronounced, especially during rest periods.

Any more questions?

Frank, the info you gave about the kangaroos is fascinating!  I didn't know they would touch your face like that if you're their human foster parent.  And they gaze into the eyes... they sound so much more affectionate than I ever realized they could be.  Sweet!

Glenda, how cute that your Seechook would hide under your braid!  Grin
