Ok, Moonfish...I just responded...
now, could you please tell us the reason you want to know (e.g. thesis, pure curiosity, or some other reason)?
Thanks.

Where was the choice for whether or not the loan has anything to do with growing potatoes?   Laugh

In all seriousness, however, it would be easier for me to identify the one choice that influences me the least - the pictures.  I love it when we get good pictures, but if a loan meets most of my other criteria, I will still loan even if the picture is crummy.

I lean toward loans where the entrepreneur is female, the country is in the Western Hemisphere, the loan is for less than 14 months, and the MFI is 4 stars or higher.  I prefer loans that have something to do with agriculture or food, and anything to do with potatoes or root vegetables gets triple-extra bonus points.

I tend to lean toward females, with kids in schools.  Even more so if they are widowed (my dad died when I was 11, perhaps an influence Undecided )

I also tend to give to war-torn areas.  Kenya, Iraq, Afganistan for similar reasons.

I need to finish my "Around the world" theme with a loan to a North American.  I have middle east, Cambodia, Peru. Kenya and Tajikistan...let's go look Smiley  Maybe Mexco or Guatemala?

Most important to me is the type of business.

Does it make sense to engage in that type of business for the country and is there a fair chance of making a profit from it.

And when dealing with groups (let's say 8 or 10 people) are they diversified or are they all shoe sales people tbey land up competing against one another. I have no problem lending to groups but if there are more then 4 people in them, they must have several business angles to pursue.

Weather here - somewhat warm, little muggy.

And since you like loaning to men - how about lending me $300 for a few cases of beer and another bundle of cash to buy some lotto tickets ...thanks .... Shocked Tongue Shocked

This was hard, since most of these things influence my decision. And also some other things. I liked to have diversity, so I look at the country and the field also. Single/widowed women with children might get money, even though I hadn't thought of lending. Also I think education is very important, so if it says that someone needs the money for their business so that they can educate themselves or their children, I'm opening my wallet... And one loan was just about a pretty cow in the picture Smiley  Some people like potatoes, I like cows...

Well, I'm pretty new, so my criteria might change. I'm not particulary worried if I don't get my money back. Of course I prefer to get it so that I can loan it to someone else, but if they can't pay it back, I guess they REALLY needed it. And for me this is a sort of charity, in the sense that I have no intentions of getting my money out. I only want it back for re-lending. Pretty interesting thread Smiley
