Complete Index of Recipes now available at the first posting:
http://www.kivafriends.org/index.php/topic,2258.msg34950.html#msg34950

Welcome!
This thread is a collection of recipes that relate to dishes mentioned in KIVA entrepreneur profiles. If you're interested in taking part in this project one way to start is to go to KIVA LEND (see button at the top of this page) and put a search term in the box. For example, I've used the keyword restaurant and the region South America (those areas are about 90% covered). Frederic and Peter have been working in other regions. What's very important is that you type the country + name of your recipe in the subject line so that we can keep track of which recipes have been covered  Thumbs Up If you'd like to add information about a dish we've already covered just write the country + recipe + more (as Peter did when adding to Frederic's work).

Evelyn would be delighted to do whatever it is you're talking about, Richard. I've noticed what you do with words that link to other places but you're going to have to tell me how to do this! Send a pm if this is too elementary for a posting.

I am so going to impress by Grade 6 students next fall  Party

Your willing student,

Try this...

1. Everywhere you have {color=navy} and {/color} replace them with {url=navy} and {/url} -- "{" means "[" and "}" means "]"

2. Everywhere you have "navy" - replace it with the url (address) for that recipe.  You can get the address by clicking on the name of that post, for example, when you click on post #1, "REGIONAL RECIPES connected to KIVA businesses NIGERIA: CHIN-CHIN," the url address box becomes "http://www.kivafriends.org/index.php/topic,2258.msg34950.html#msg34950" Copy that where "navy" used to be for CHIN-CHIN and you get...

{url=http://www.kivafriends.org/index.php/topic,2258.msg34950.html#msg34950}Chin chin {/url}

You can see how this looks below.

Index Recipes 1 through 28

Anticuchos de pollo from Peru and arroz con menestra from Peru
Baleadas from the Honduras and Bissap from Senegal and bollo from Peru
Cau cau and Ceviche from Peru, Chin chin from Nigeria and Chinh from Vietnam

Some fun, eh!  Wink

Entrepreneur Mrs. Sophath Nhem of Kampong Chhnang province has a small restaurant in Kraing Leav Village where she “sells soup as breakfast food”. She still needs $300 to fill her loan.

Martik Anah is a wife, mother and entrepreneur from Badung, Indonesia.  She took out a loan of $125 to increase the amount and variety of offerings at her food stall.

"In front of the house Mother Martik built a small Food stall, which sells local mixed ice drink, mixed rice and gado gado (indonesian peanut salad)."

Kenyan entrepreneur Beth Mutisya’s loan was filled by just three investors – and one of those was KIVAfriend Robert. Beth serves her clients rice and beans so here’s a recipe for beans that are commonly served on rice or chapatis.

MMM – curry, turmeric and coconut, how could it miss?

http://www.allthingskenyan.com/food-mbaazi.html

A Food “Story”:
Beth began her business in 1989, with only about US $1; she had to hide the money she saved for this from her husband, who was a drunkard. For one month she hid money that her husband gave her for food, and she used that to buy rice and beans and sell them to construction workers who passed by her home. After a company saw that she was serving a need of its workers, the company provided her with a kiosk near the airport in order to feed the workers. With the earnings from this business, Beth was able to pay her children's school fees. After a while, another company offered her a kiosk near the City Cabanas area along Mombassa Road, where she still has her small restaurant. By this time, her husband had died, and his family had disowned her and the children because a dowry had not been paid for her. One of her daughters also passed away, leaving three children, hence she has nine dependent youths to support” (Beth's KIVA loan is almost halfway repaid)

KIVA Profile Excerpt:
Gulbahor Kholmatova is 38-year-old lady ... Gulbahor is working hard to earn an honest livelihood. For 5 years already Gulbahor has been running her own business. She started baking the national bread which is called “lepeshka.” She gets up early and bakes the lepeshka so that people have the fresh bread on their tables for breakfast.

Lepeshka is a term that applies to a type of flatbread that is made throughout this Central Asian region. Here is a video bread being made using traditional methods. disclaimer: I don't know if this is lepeshka or not, but you won't want to miss this video if you're interested in bread baking!
