Moonfish, Steve, and SmallPotatoes are all on board now.

That's at least 17 Kivafriends and counting!

It's pretty neat that Scott's daughter Lily has the record -- and now Scott's looking to have us break that record in support of this very, very nice loan.

Personally, I think there's no finer sight on Kiva.org than a bunch of us Kivafriends gathered in positive force
on a worthy loan.

I agree, Fred --

I think this loan is gathering momentum, and I thank Scott for taking
the lead in this effort. One of the great values of the Kiva Friends
community is when we pull together on a project and
bring in so many lenders on one loan or another.

I love it when I look at a loan and see lots of KFers on
the page. Warms my old tired out heart.

Good work, everyone.

Now, remember y'all -- what's our goal?

My non-KF-related question on this loan is this:

Who is AAAA?

Ann
for whom one A is enough

Ann with one A, you crack me up!  It's a good question though - we need to get AAAA to join Kiva Friends!  They only opened the account today and already have 41 loans!  And I thought I was a Kivaholic...  Good for them!

I love it when I look at a loan and see lots of KFers on
the page. Warms my old tired out heart.

[confused] So like, I don't get it. I think Kiva is fabulous, and all you folks who have lent so generously are also fabulous. But I can't get excited about being on a loan that has other KF'ers (hah! that sounds really bad) on it. Like, I don't really care. In fact, seeing as I hope Kiva continues to grow, it follows that I hope even more people with whom I have no connection whatsoever start lending and taking over all sorts of loans. I certainly don't have time to get to know the hundreds of people who join Kiva daily (even if they joined KF), so all the better that more strangers are joining, right?
Am I missing something? [/confused]

As an aside, the US economy downturn has me worried for continued Kiva growth. I envision that charitable giving (even if they're loans, I imagine many American's budgets for Kiva fall under charity) is tied to disposable income, which can decrease quite precipitously in a recession. I guess we just have to assume that growth potential is more a matter of reaching people who haven't heard about Kiva than it is about convincing people who have heard but haven't acted on it.

I can totally understand that you don't care but, really, you couldn't understand at all how maybe some people in an online community might feel connected being on a loan together?

I think with 625 loans, finding another friend or two (or 33) on a loan with you might naturally make someone feel warm and connected. I think too, there are probably others like yourself, who don't really care, but still can understand why others might. I can certainly understand both.

Different people are motivated by different things.  One thing that is nice with a bunch of KFers jumping on a loan is that it gains momentum.  When a large loan had half a dozen or so jump on at once, it went from languishing to front page pretty quickly.  Then other non-KF folks were drawn in.  The same country had another group loan which had been more advanced, but the KF chosen loan pulled ahead quickly.

This is one aspect of the comraderie you might relate better to.

I think, also, once you go into chat and know people at another level, it becomes more meaningful.  (Come on in, the weather if fine.  People might be a bit crazy...)

If neither of these work for you personally, that is ok.  Different strokes for different folks.   Smiley
