Here is some more info regarding our 2010 attempt to break the KivaFriends loan record. Once again, we'll be counting KivaFriends users who have something like "KivaFriends.org" under their lender avatar. For a quick guide on how to put this info under your lender avatar, you can see the how-to I wrote up at the following link:
http://www.kivafriends.org/index.php/topic,2545.msg39571.html#msg39571Just for the history, this all started out when I counted up the number of KivaFriends who joined Lily's Loan/Women in Progress (
http://www.kiva.org/lend/49888) back in June/July of 2008 and found 32 lenders. This was our starting benchmark.
We then officially held our first record breaking attempt in July 2008 and used the Kanahuara Group loan (
http://www.kiva.org/lend/54280). We reset the record at a whopping 62 KivaFriends-identified lenders on a single loan.
In July 2009, the loan selected was from the Esperanza Group (
http://www.kiva.org/lend/120703) and we did the unthinkable and managed to beat the old mark by a huge margin setting the record at 85 KivaFriends-identified lenders on a single loan.
Now we are coming up quickly on what I can only describe as a Mission Impossible. The 2010 attempt to break the record of most KivaFriends-identified lenders on a single loan is fast approaching. I, for one, was skeptical of us being able to break the 2008 record in 2009, so you can guess how hard I think it will be to break the 2009 loan here in 2010. But, we are going to definitely give it our best effort!
I will select a loan on July 15th and it will most likely be a 5 star MFI with currency risk covered. It will most definitely be a group loan as those are big enough to give us a fighting chance to load us all up on the same loan before it is fully funded. The big problem we have is that we can't keep our efforts secret! That means that we'll probably push the loan so high in popularity that it'll hit the Kiva home page and attract even more lenders. We'll have to try to act quickly or the loan will close before we can get everyone on board.
Again, to be counted on the loan, you'll have to have something like "KivaFriends.org" under your lender avatar, so definitely check out that how-to link I posted above. You only have to have it under your lender avatar during the loan attempt and for a few days after while I get the count. After I announce that the attempt is over/final, you can then remove it from your lender avatar if you so wish.
Thanks for your time,
