I think Henry's also referring to when we were once able to place some HTML language into our profiles, which Kiva outlawed and prevented from operating sometime late last year if I recall accurately.  Correct me if Im wrong--its been awhile and things change almost as quickly as my ability to remember.  I think it was our own KF Sherri who brought the dangers of it to their attention.  With your web background Scott its probably something you would have understood.

I really love this.  It's a great way to visually conceptualise where in the world all the lenders are coming from, and where the borrower is too.

The only disappointment that I have is that when there are multiple lenders from the same city, only one lender appears on the map.  Most of the time this shouldn't be an issue, and the density of the line colour seems to represent the presence of multiple lenders.  It'd just be disappointing to try to find yourself on the map and be hidden from view.

An example of this is the loan: http://www.kiva.org/app.php?page=businesses&action=about&id=57164.  Both Natasha and Nigel are from the city of Melbourne, Australia... yet only Nigel appears when you click on the Melbourne leaf.  Would it be possible for the bubble to contain the details of both in situations like this?

Kiva has announced the Map Feature on their site. The good news is that the announcement ends with this:

Quote
PS to KivaFriends - Your sneaky move of putting the KivaFriends url in your lender page address should now be playing nicely with the maps Smiley

http://kivanews.blogspot.com/2008/07/announcing-kiva-maps.html

My eyes lit up when I got to the end of the article. What a really nice and generous thing Kiva has done for us! I checked it out on the Record loan and sure enough the map is now full of lines. The funny thing is, everyone seems to be there EXCEPT for me... I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong either. My only final guess is that since I've been experimenting with my account so much, perhaps there's a time delay before I'll start showing up on the map... anyway, it appears that finally, the joke is on me!  Tongue

Ah, just read Cloudia's post about only having one lender per city on the map and Kerry (waywardcats) and I are both in SF so I used my permanent address of Menlo Park, but alas, no joy there too. I still don't show up.

Anyway, a big Way to go Kiva!

I had put city and country in one line, then www.kivafriends.org into the state/province line. Seems that caused the confusion. Now I am on... Smiley

Scott, the leaf for you shows up over near Oakland, sort of.  (I had to zoom way in on the map to find you, and you're still in a weird location, but you ARE there.)

Wow, maybe it was a timing thing. When I went and looked just now, I now appear in my correct location of Menlo Park CA. And I see that Oli is now showing up in Germany as well! All is good in the world, so to speak!

Dagfinn,

I had to leave my account untouched for at least one hour before I started showing up on the map. I see you took KF off your lender avatar - just leave it like that for now and see if you don't appear on the map after a few hours. You can put KF back on your avatar when we get closer to having the loan fund.
