Okay, I tried the Ann Sam Ol loan that Jan posted.  Whatever Jan did works correctly so everybody do what she did on her lender page!  Laugh (And she does have KivaFriends in there and everything shows up properly.)

Let's all wait for Kiva to finalize this feature before we make any changes just yet. Having "KivaFriends.org" is great because it is obvious what you do with that - you either click it and are brought to our site here or you plug it into a browser and are brought to our site here. With just "KivaFriends", I'm not sure what someone new to Kiva will think.. probably that you are a Kiva Friend. And if they actually got around to putting it in their web browser, they'd probably type KivaFriends.com which doesn't work... I don't know... yet.

Scott and Jan when I try the Kanahuara Group loan, the map doesn't even come up with any connective lines at all for me...

It does work for me on that loan, but I am hearing from many folks for whom the Map feature is not working at all. I suspect this must be a combination of browser/OS problems or that Kiva is still tweaking the code for this feature. I'm sure it will settle down over the course of the next day or so.

I think this is pretty nifty Kiva!  Thumbs Up

So do I  Thumbs Up

I find it interesting that they have integrated a map here, my challenge for Kiva would be to use maps etc in Lender Portfolio (public and private) pages.  Something like this would be great: http://www.editgrid.com/user/cweddell/My_Kiva_Loans.myloansexhibit.html (a couple of screenshots below).

Hopefully they are heading that way Christopher--its a good sign at least for something many of us have or had once been tracking on our own for quite some time now.

Has anyone figured out a way to show kivafriends.org in their avatar without affecting the mapping feature?  I posted on the Loan to break the record thread that it seemed to prevent the mapping from working.

I believe the way that Jan has hers is showing up.  I think someone else posted that elsewhere, and when you go to the record breaking loan, she is shown on the map feature up there in Canada.   I'm sure one of the techies will be able to help you more.

Jan's worked because she could squeeze it into the 24 characters available for her name.  Not all of can do that.

I will watch how the mapping function unfolds and the bugs get worked out before reaching any conclusion, but it might lead me to take Kiva Friends off our Avatar.  Of course I will leave it until this loan gets funded.

Well, the short answer is no. I tried placing KivaFriends.org in other fields and it doesn't work. The lender name field doesn't allow enough characters and if you put it in either the City or State/Province field, you are left off the map.

I doubt you'll be the only one to take KivaFriends.org off their lender avatar so that the map works for them AND probably new folks will be very hesitant to break their map feature by adding KivaFriends.org to their lender avatar, SO, the Record Breaking Loan attempt is probably going to be THE record for a long time to come.

Let's at least follow Dan in this; Do no take KivaFriends.org off your lender avatar until after the Record Breaking loan funds and I take a snapshot of the loan details and get a final count. After that, well, you can do whatever you want. The map feature isn't very interesting to me. I got bored of it after seeing two or three except for to see where the borrower was located. So, I won't be taking KF off mine, but that's my own personal decision.

I wonder if Kiva would somehow work with us to allow us to have this link appear beneath our lender avatar...

-Scott

p.s. As Dolphine points out, if you can fit KivaFriends.org in your Display Name field on your My Lender Page in your account, it will appear and you will show up on the map. You cannot exceed 24 characters, so that leaves a max of 8 characters (assumes a space) for your username. It will not appear as a link. That doesn't work for my lender name.

MA<br/><a href=http://www.kivafriends.org target=_new>KivaFriend</a>

can anyone get that working again?

I'm afraid that no longer works either.
