FYI, I have http://www.kivafriends.org in the "city" slot on my account and my city & state in the "state/province" slot and I am showing up on the map. I checked this morning. This might work for someone who is having problems. Jane

ugh.... I cannot get my location to work correctly.
Jane, Thanks for the suggestions. I made your changes, but so far it's not working. Maybe I have to be patient (which I am NOT good at), before the changes take place.

I would give it an hour or two after your last change for it to start working... -Scott

Sandy, I checked out your lender avatar and I think I know what the problem is. You have set your link to KivaFriend.org. You need to add an s to that to make it KivaFriends.org as, I believe, the special coding Kiva did to make maps work for us probably is keyed off of the correct spelling. Make that change and then wait a bit for it to get picked up and we'll see if you start appearing on the map. I noticed that Dagfinn, who doesn't have KF in his avatar at all, still isn't showing up at all. fyi, -Scott

Nice feature. I finally caved in and added KF to my profile. I changed it, checked, I wasn't on the map, fiddled a bit (changed "Alberta" to "AB" - not sure if it mattered), checked again, and I was on. So I don't know what the secret is, but it worked after a mild bit of persistence. I agree that a map showing lenders' portfolios would be even nicer.

Scott,
Between you and Jane, I think I finally got myself straighted out. I could not have done it without both of you! I added the "S", that I mistyped from Scott's posting above), and went out to look, but I was still not showing on the map. So I waited for an hour or so, and now it is updated and works PERFECTLY!
Thank you to everyone... I am now a real loaction on the map!

Hey everybody,
Glad you all like the map feature. Just wanted to let you know one reason why some of you might not be showing up - We're using Google to geocode all of our addresses. In English, this means that we take the string "Hartford, CT, USA" and pass it to Google. Then we get back the latitude and longitude (as long as it's in their database). It all works great, except for the fact that we're limited to 15,000 geocoding requests per day.
Soooo, if you're not appearing on the map it could be because we haven't gotten your lat/lon from Google yet and we're over our limit. Of course, it could also be something else (bad address formatting, no lat/lon available for your location, etc), but the quota is having a significant impact on the coolness of our maps.
The good news is that we're working with Google right now to get the quota removed, so hopefully this will be a non-issue in the very near future. Till then, have patience.....

Hi there Dan - I saw your AB - nice to meet someone else from Calgary - the hat thingie is the closest I can come to Flames Red and I totally agree with Jane and was going to shamelessly ask you to help with the record breaking loan when I saw you already had - way to go... jan
