"Civilization is a stream with banks. The stream is sometimes filled with blood from people killing, stealing, shouting and doing the things historians usually record, while on the banks, unnoticed, people build homes, make love, raise children, sing song."  William Durant

This thread will collect photographs (interiors and exteriors) of the places where  KIVA entrepreneurs live in order to show the diverse archictectural building styles that have arisen in response to different climates and cultures.

To avoid duplicates and facilitate searching , please leave subject line as is but add the country and surname.

Name:Dalia Castillo
Location: Mexico
Notes  Dalia started her business out of necessity; because for her husband, the fishing at times goes well but at other times it does not, particularly when the fishery season is closed. Because of this she wanted to help him with the household expenses that are ever-increasing as their children grow up. She needed to have an additional income that would permit them to cover their necessities when her husband’s work was scarce, since all of their children are studying and at times their situation is very difficult.

Name:Jose Guadalupe
Location: Mexico
Notes  My name is Jose Guadalupe and my wife and I have a house. Our bathroom is very small and we now need more space to have a comfortable home. We decided to expand it but don't have the resources to do so.

Name:Jahziel Sanchez
Location: Mexico
Notes  My wife and I want to put a roof on the patio of our house. We have two sons who very much enjoy playing outside on the patio but since we live in a semi-desert area, it is impossible for us to permit them to go out to play for fear that they will suffer sunstroke or that they will get dehydrated.

Name:Bibi Shernaeva
Location: Tajikistan
Notes:
Bibi Shernaeva is a very hardworking woman and knows that each day she has to give her best effort and all her courage. She is married and has three children. She works raising and feeding animals with the goal of later selling them. This activity created in her feelings of satisfaction because it allows her to provide for a considerable amount of the household income. The care that she takes to feed the animals and supply them with occasional medical visits from the veterinarian has increased their population and so now she guides them into the field each day for feeding.

Excerpt from Habitat for Humanity article:   "Due to the civil war and the economic collapse, practically all house building has come to a halt. Many unfinished homes are scattered all across Tajikistan while existing buildings deteriorate because of neglect. Families live in houses made of raw brick or clay with dirt floors. Their homes ... were not built to withstand earthquakes in a region prone to such disasters."
