TOPIC FOR THIS THREAD: The cultivation, harvesting and processing of plant-based products mentioned in KIVA entrepreneur profiles This is the fourth in a series of threads to collect YOUTUBE videos that can be used anywhere by public school aged students (and their teachers). YOUTUBE has a lot of rich, educational material available but it is presently impossible for classroom teachers (especially at the elementary level) to set their students loose on the site! As teachers we really need
a safe place to send our students, as well as a set of readily available
resources for different subject areas. I hope that everyone (not only teachers) will feel free to contribute links. If you have an idea (e.g. art, dance, occupations, recipes, famous places), please don’t be shy. Start a new thread or drop me a line to discuss it!
Posting suggestions (not rules
) Subject: Please leave the heading (YOUTH-FRIENDLY /YOU-TUBE 4. Plants (Agriculture/Processing) but add the country & any tags you think would be useful
(This will make it easier for teachers to find and attach to specific lesson plans)
Body:
Please include the
title and
length of video (plus notes/extra tags if you wish)
(To help avoid duplication)
Before posting: Please make sure you have
heard and
viewed the entire video .
(So that nothing that is non-age appropriate slips through)
Thank you to everyone who has been helping to make KIVA a richer experience for students everywhere!
Wikipedia Definitions:Agriculture is the process of producing food, feed, fiber and other desired products by the cultivation of certain plants and the raising of domesticated animals (livestock). The practice of agriculture is also known as "farming", while scientists, inventors and others devoted to improving farming methods and implements are also said to be engaged in agriculture. More people in the world are involved in agriculture as their primary economic activity than in any other, yet it only accounts for four percent of the world's GDP.
Food processing is the methods and techniques used to transform raw ingredients into food for human consumption. Food processing takes clean, harvested( or slaughtered and butchered components) and uses them to produce marketable food products.
