It's 6:18 p.m. on the East Coast and 445 loans are listed ! I think it'd be fun later see how the night progressed. I feel like it's election day !

That might not work if they add new loans throughout the evening.... but for reference the newest loan request now (sorted new to old) is from Manuel Jorge De Sousa in Mozambique, second is Xavier Pessute also in Mozambique, and third is Esteban Valero Gaytan in Mexico.

"The Flood" is happening because Kiva is going to be featured on PBS's show FRONTLINE tongith and they expect there's going to be a big big response and they want everyone who comes to the site to be able to invest. So today Kiva won't let you make more than one $25 investment (although I seemed to sneak in three new people before they cut me off; this really can be like an addiction).
I'm really amazed that the people in Viet Nam only ask for $75.

I noticed that earlier as well. If smaller amounts are common, I always miss those since they probably get snapped up pretty quick. The lowest I saw today was a request for $50, but don't remember where. Previously, I think the smallest amount I remember seeing requested (since I've been a member) was $175.

I was thinking it might be like election night too, I keep looking at the loans. There are 445 and the last one is Leontina Felismina Cau in Mozabique. I bid on a loan the other day 'cause it was one of the oldest, and it seems to be funding at about $25/day. http://www.kiva.org/app.php?page=businesses&action=about&id=4813. He's been third from the oldest for days now. And yes, I bid on him just so I could see how long he takes to fund.

I was surprised about the $75 in Viet Nam as well. However, the descriptions I read stated that the people's monthly salary was about $11. So for the entrepreneur, that's like taking a loan equivalent to 7 months' salary. If you earn $60,000 a year, imagine taking a loan for $35,000. Many of the loans in Mexico and South America are for $500-$1000. Salaries in Mexico are low, but not that low. For someone earning $150 a month, $900 are equivalent to 6 months' salary.

Julia, I did that too for one of my loans! I saw that one of the oldest requests was getting no response, a woman with a little shop in Bolivia. As for your guy, I think it's because there's been such a glut of people from Azerbaijan. From looking at other lender profiles I get the idea that most people want to spread their money around to many different parts of the world.

It's just before 7 p.m. now on the West Coast and Kiva seems pretty slow... I'm not able to sort the listings into new to old ("Not Found" is what I get on my screen) and the pictures didn't load on the main Lend page. I take this as a good sign? This has never happened before when I access Kiva.

I'm getting visible scripts when I look.
I'm hoping IT is on it.... my husband says its a database call error. He's an configuration engineer who launches code.

hmm, well I can't see anything except the main page. When I click the entrepreneur to get his/ her page I get Not Found again. How many loan listings are there now? Is there a newer loan than Manuel Jorge de Sousa?
