We do not need to go abroad to find people who need a hand - how can we have something similar to our fellow Americans, Danes etc.

The link is to a Norwegian paper but most is in English and in case you wonder the text is Swedish Smiley

I truly think we should act accoridng to this principle:

1. take care of your own needs and be selfsufficient
2. help those around you
3. reach further out

Hard to practise - I wish I had a Kiva for my neighbourhood.

ps - as you all can see I am not that good at putting the url in correctly- sorry but please do check it out

Good thought Dagfinn.  I think the problem for many is to get stuck in #1.  How much is enough?  How much is really a "need" (especially in a world view perspective)?

I think perhaps to say it another way is:

1. To view yourself as a steward of resource and good things, using that portion as is necessary for you to be self-sustainable.

2. To respond to the opportunities to use those resources most productively in helping others (leveling the playing field?).

3. To live life in such a way as to increase those opportunities to use those resources (broaden our perspectives).

For me, Kiva is one clear way to increase the opportunities to share the resource.

Less is more surprisingly often Dan - I gave it some thought what you said about getting stuck at # 1.

To my personal experience a lot of possessions bogs you down and you loose freedom.  Instead your life is clogged with all you "need" to do to maintain it all or go after even more.

At the same time, if you do live with less, you may even be able to get down to a sustainable life that the planet can survive on given that now wealth is not only a reality in the old West.

As you Dan I agree that so far Kiva is among the best options to act constructively in society of today.

Be well, Dagfinn A.
