Lorna,

According to the Terms and Conditions, voting is limited to US cardmembers.

http://www.membersproject.com/about/terms.html

Quote
To submit a Project or vote for your favorite Project, however, you must be a legal resident of the 50 United States or the District of Columbia, at least 15 years of age, and the holder in good standing of an American Express® Card issued by American Express in the United States, whether you are a basic or Additional Cardmember ("Cardmember"). Additionally, if you are submitting a Project you cannot be an employee, or an immediate family member (i.e., spouse, parent, sibling, dependent, or spouse of parent, sibling or dependent, regardless of where he/she lives) of an employee, of American Express, or any of its parent, subsidiary or affiliated companies, advertising or promotion agencies, independent contractors, or any promotion partners of American Express directly involved with Members Project (collectively, the "American Express Parties").

Thanks for trying.

From Matt Flannery:

Hi Steven,

Exciting news! Kiva's entry "Loans that change lives" has just been voted one of the Top 25 in the American Express Members Project online competition. Only the Top 5 projects by popular vote will move on to the final round to compete for a $1.5 million First Prize. We need your help between now and September 29th to get as many votes as possible!

What can you do to help?

1.      American Express cardmembers, vote here

2.      Not a cardmember? Spread the word to help us get out the vote.

With your support, Kiva can turn a $1.5 million First Prize into $30 Million dollars in loans to 60,000 entrepreneurs around the world.

Thanks for your help!

Hey everyone with a website, blog or someone willing to look at your computer - add KIVA's Members Project Video to your website!  Here are some versions to try:

email copy:

Subject:  One click to help Kiva fund 60,000 more entrepreneurs!

Body:

As you may already know, Kiva’s entry “Loans that change lives” has just been voted one of the Top 25 in the American Express Members Project online competition.  Kiva’s is one of just 25 projects selected out of nearly 1200 nominees to advance to the second round and compete for $1.5 million through popular vote.

What can you do to help?

-    American Express Cardmembers, Vote Today:  http://www.membersproject.com/project/view/P6KQEI

-    Please Forward this Email to Friends & Family

-    Facebook Users, Add the Kiva Video Application:  http://apps.facebook.com/kivavideo/watch

$1 donated to Kiva’s Operational Expenses has led to $8 in loans.  If Kiva wins $1.5M, this could help facilitate $12M of additional loans to 24,000 entrepreneurs this year.  The beauty of the Kiva model is that when an entrepreneur repays his/her loan, the lender can re-invest it, which happens 60% of the time.  So over the next 10 years, your vote for Kiva could help generate $30 Million dollars in loans to 60,000 developing world entrepreneurs.

Second round of voting ends on September 29th.

Thanks for your support!!

Thanks Lyndsey for the idea!

Hey everyone with a website, blog or someone willing to look at your computer - add KIVA's Members Project Video to your website!  Here are some versions to try:

Posted the video and link on the home page of P2P, posted a note to the 357 P2P Team members, and posted my first ever in 20 years, "Please do me a personal favor and do this" type post on saabnet.com since many, many Saabers have an Amex card... It must result in something!

And, not realizing/remembering until today that my JetBlue card is an Amex card (doh!), I voted!

Kiva is currently in 4th place!!!

Too cute of a story not to share:

Since we don't use American Express, I sent an email out with a plea to vote for Kiva to everyone I knew.  Turns out my parents have AmEx cards and they responded that they were more than happy to vote, but that they hadn't a clue what I meant by 'voting'.  They are both computer literate, but not so savvy with such online practices such as 'voting', being that they are 80 years old.  So I just got off the phone from them, they each took their AmEx card and created an account and went in and voted.  They had a blast doing it, were grateful that they could help Kiva, and were thrilled to be able to help their daughter with her Kiva passion.   Thumbs Up  I am so lucky to have such dear sweet parents.   Kiss

On another happy note, while helping them log in with their votes this afternoon, Kiva is now in second place out of the 25, so spread the word, this truly can happen!  There are only seven days left to the voting.  So spread the news!   Mail

For any team leaders, how about posting to your members?  Anyone else have any other thoughts on getting the word out?

Here is the link to voting:  www.kivafriends.org/amex.php

I tried.  Mark tried.... but sometimes there is a problem.  It may keep looping around, and not confirm if the vote has been registered.  I think Mark got his through, but I'm not sure about mine.  Maybe too much traffic?Huh?

That explains a lot!  Wish that had been mentioned .... would have saved us a lot of time.  Thanks for letting other non-U.S. AMEX card holders know about this!!
