Additionally, Google's translation doesn't play all that well with possessive pronouns.  Although I am not fluent enough to volunteer as a translator,

su vida y la de su familia

can mean both "your life and that of your family" or "her life and that of her family", which is, I'm sure, what the writer meant.  Google made a different choice.

If you ever have some free time and want a good laugh, I can thoroughly suggest running some Spanish Kiva loans through Google Translate.  In particular, I would suggest those from Fundación Realidad.  They are an absolute hoot!

Which reminds me that we should say  Thank You to all the wonderful volunteer translators at Kiva.  We here at KivaFriends have a special appreciation for their work.  Smiley

"Our daughters can contribute just as much to society as our sons, and our common prosperity will be advanced by allowing all humanity - men and women - to reach their full potential. I do not believe that women must make the same choices as men in order to be equal, and I respect those women who choose to live their lives in traditional roles. But it should be their choice. That is why the United States will partner with any Muslim-majority country to support expanded literacy for girls, and to help young women pursue employment through micro-financing that helps people live their dreams." - President Barack Obama, June 4, 2009

I just had a weirdly truncated journal for one of my loans with Fundación Paraguaya, which reads in its entirety:

seguimiento de Gladys Ferreira -Fundaci
Carapegua, Paraguay
La Sra. Gladys tiene 55 a

followed by a smaller version of the photo originally posted with the loan, under which it says:

Posted by Fundación Paraguaya from Carapegua, Paraguay, Jul 26, 2011

I wonder if there is something new in the user interface for Kiva field partners, as we've seen a couple like this recently.

I received a set of 6 journals truncated in the same way, all stopping right after listing what I presume to be the age of the borrower.

Ah, thanks for the report Peter!

On a previous case with a truncated journal, I noticed that the last character before the journal was cut short was a quote.  I've run into similar issues in the past, where email software has crashed on a "magic quote":

Usually this happens when someone cuts and pastes quotes in from Microsoft Word!  I've posted a bug report, and hopefully we can get to the bottom of this one!

Thanks,
John

...so, the character that's causing the problem in this case must be ñ

La Sra. Gladys tiene 55 años (and whatever came after that) became La Sra. Gladys tiene 55 a
