There are many business and corporate lenders on Kiva and here on KivaFriends. Some I might give a shout out to include myself/Saabnet/Saabnet.com*/P2P, P2PPF*, kivaB4B/Kiva B4B*, Agent001/Global Agents for Change, Jama Software*, onehorizon/One Horizon Foundation, Snak*, Collin/WordHugger, randulo/Talkathon*, Nicole & Hiren/Terix Computer Service, emme/Clear Light Digital*, SPeSeR/speser*, Arbita*, The Mermaid Inn, Amsterdam Escape*, AccountAbility/AccountAbility, CouponGood*, BeHosting.com*, XNet, BeHosting.com*, Red Cowboy Designs*, and billnewcomer.com. Of course, there are so many I'll have missed...

* Denotes Kiva.org prominently displayed on business site's home page.

I just wanted to take a moment to acknowledge that business and corporate lenders are a wonderful part of the Kiva universe and I hope to see them increase along with personal lenders.

But the real focus of my post is cross marketing. It's one thing to put a Kiva link or logo or banner on your home page, but it's entirely another thing to do active cross marketing. I've found the former to be, really, just passive marketing. Because businesses have so many public interactions per day, they are ripe candidates for active cross marketing.

So today I was laying out supplies to pack up over 100 new paid member kits to ship out and my good friend Ann/abc was in the chat room and said, "Hey, Scott, why don't you put Kiva flyers in with them?" Well, duh! Ann, you smartie-pants! So I went to the Kiva site and got the flyer pdf and put one in every single new member kit! I have to believe that, one, there are other Saab owners who are like me, and two, the Saab owner demographic is compatible with the Kiva demographic. Anyway, I will jump for joy when the day arrives that someone registers on KivaFriends and in their profile next to where it says, Where did you first hear about Kiva?:, they put, Saabnet.com.

That's my  Piggy Bank about active cross marketing and also my good Kiva deed for the X period of time (until I do the next one).

What an EXCELLENT idea, Scott!  I feel totally sure you're going to see some results, it's just too perfect!  Well done (and well done, Ann!)

(PS: Nice new member kit, btw!)

Thats really great Scott--when I used to sell on ebay I would use my sales as opportunities to share a bit about Kiva as well.  Hope it goes well.

Jan? You have loose cash?

Might I suggest a fine vintage Kiva entrepreneur,
say a 4-day Azerbaijani livestock loan? I think you will be
amused by the humility of this fine loan. The sort of
loan that you'd enjoy with a hearty beef stew.

Or perhaps you would prefer something slightly
more exotic, like an Asian loan. We have a 4-day loan
in our cellar that really has with some body
to it: this Cambodian transportation loan. I think you
will find that it is robust but it travels
well, and it is good with rice dishes.
http://www.kiva.org/app.php?page=businesses&action=about&id=56277&_tpos=3&_tpg=1

You know, I think the fine aroma of this
3-day Bolivan loan would suit you more.
It has a strong but gentle hint of South America,
but does not overpower your senses. The perfumey
quality of this loan gives a soft focus to any meal.
http://www.kiva.org/app.php?page=businesses&action=about&id=56377&_tpos=1&_tpg=1

Enjoy your supper, madam, and please let us know if we can
serve you in any way.

Sorry, Scott, I did not mean to hijack your table, er, I mean your
thread. I'll go back to my own station now. Just trying to be helpful.

Ann - you're cute but you're getting no more from me till pension cheques arrive at month end...

Scott - what about this news item at http://www.kivafriends.org/index.php/topic,2575.msg40047.html#msg40047

When businesses donate to Kiva like this, how do they spread the word?

Could Kiva develop a page? search program? some computer whiz bang thing? that would help me find a business here in Calgary that I could support because they support Kiva?

does that question make sense or does it just make the head spin???

Scott:
Here's another pair. I also saw a restaurant in Netherlands (Groningen), but can't find the links anymore.
