I was just thinking it would be fun if instead of the "43,000+ lenders, $4 million" banner on Kiva, they would put a real-life counter on the main page where the current number of lenders and money lent would be posted, updated every day.  Would that be hard to do?

I also think this would be cool in conjunction with a lender profile searcher that would allow you to look at people by state, regions, etc. Sure it's nice to know who your fellow loaners are on a particular loan, but wouldn't it be cool to branch out and meet and be able to message locals so you can work together and perhaps meet/greet locally as well?

My two cents,
Jeff

Yeah Ari, I think that would be pretty cool. Not to sure how hard it would be the tally that up each day. I'm sort of a stats weirdo so I think it'd be nice to have somewhere to access live info for money lended/number of loans/number of lenders things like that. Who would we talk to to get that done?

hmm... wasn't there a guy who posted somewhere on here the other day who works at Kiva doing their computer stuff?  I've been looking through several topics but can't find him... anybody?

I was just going to post this same question this morning, but got too busy at work  Tongue

I think that would be a great idea!

This has spawned a question as well... Wouldn't it be cool to see the breakdown not only by total loaned, but by region and show pie-chart stats to indicate this, etc?

Maybe they could open source their data through some sort of daily API that someone could compile off-site. Example would be with Prosper (groan) and how there are several statistical sites that update daily. Good example would be LendingStats.com.

I love the idea of having some live charts, maybe in the "Inside Kiva" section.  Seeing the growth in dollars and participants would contribute to the excitement we addicts crave.  How about coming attractions banners like you see at the movies - India, Mongolia - this June!  I would also take an interest in breakdowns by funding times, e.g. why some go in minutes and others wait for weeks.

Also, at the bottom of each personal portfolio, Kiva used to show the percentages of how their money was invested. It sorted the portfolio by male/female, industry and country, showing the percent lent in each category. I really miss that feature.

Check your lender page.  As for the rest of it - stay tuned...

That's great. Thanks so much! It's really interesting to me to see where my money is, as well as seeing where other people lend.
