Welcome to the second round of voting for the 2009 Kiva Calendar.  There are 3 concurrent polls (Female individuals, Male individuals and Groups) – remember to vote in each one.

You have up to 5 votes in this poll. (Results will be available after the poll has ended).

Below are links to each  entrepreneurs' profile and a thumbnail (which in turn is linked to the full-sized image – be warned some are a couple of MB or more)

The entries from the second round of polls will go through to make a heirachical shortlist* (that ensures a balance of countries, genders, groups and businesses) and be passed to Fiona@Kiva to get the permissions required over photo use.

*I am currently reserving the right that if there is a tie I will have the casting vote (I will not have voted in the poll, however tempting it might be).

Where possible the casting vote will be used to ensure:
- a balance of male and female entrepreneurs (as to the Kiva ratio)
- a balance of businesses (farming, shops, repairs, food, markets etc).

My man Juan, finally made it somewhere...I pushed hard for him last year but he didnt survive the process...thanks to whomever felt it was a good idea to bring him back and give him a second shot...go Juan!!!

And Jose the car mechanic looks like a thinner version of Adam Carolla.

I find not direction in the readings of those with whom my eccentricities are similar, but rather validation.

My only solace is that I find a peaceful place where I might be resigned to my depriving loneliness.

I found that the hardest vote of all - I had narrowed it down to 12 photos rather soon but then the difficulties started... so many great photos.

Then I remembered Geoff's post that it's also about the stories... that and the consideration that maybe two (male) bakers is a bit much helped me to find "my 5" - even though it meant that some (even particularly) fabulous photos didn't make it for me.

In case anybody cares (and of course, I hope you do... and will vote accordingly  Laugh ) - my 5 top favourites are (in no particular order):

Mir Ahammd Abdulaziz
Heat Tres (Journal photo)
Johnson Ntakan (Journal photo)
Inocencio Aquino
Godlisen Oziambo

Take care,
Wolfgang.

Pretty good pics Wolfgang even though we only share one...I was considering 2 others of yours though.

1. Mir
2. Juan
3. Simiao
4. Alisher
5. Johnson (I changed to him from Mensah after revisiting the pics just now--wasnt sure how many people, besides Colette and Jill, would like seeing a half naked person staring back at them for a whole month).  Cheesy

Edit: Wolfgang we now share 2 after the change.

I have seriously considered your 3 other choices (Juan, Simiao and Alisher), too. I dropped Alisher for already having a baker in Mir (I would not mind having two bakers in the calendar, but it was one consideration that helped my decision), Juan and Simiao (who would have been my #6) I dropped because I found their stories less compelling than Johnson's.

Btw, I thought about the half-nakedness, too, but not for Mensah but for Heat - but I like his photo too much to be able not to vote for it, especially since it's my favourite by far from Cambodia/Vietnam/Samoa - and I would like to have one photo from there in the calendar.

Take care,
Wolfgang.

I hope voters will consider selecting Rene Quispe Mamani.  Although the picture may not be visually colorful, he would be representing the disabled population.  Smiley

Thats great Margie...I didnt vote for him, but that info could be used in his write up and would make a great contribution to the calendar.  Did we have a disabled person in the calendar last year?  I dont believe we did--or at least we didnt highlight the disability if someone did have one we knew about.

Guys, I was joking about wanting half naked guys.  I actually like the animal carvings in the photo.  Easy to see topless guys on the beach, not so easy to find carved giraffes.  Dimitar is music to my ears, though.  I like Mir and Alisher for their dough.  Not that I voted this way, but I just can't resist a bad pun.

Colette what happened to your sense of humor...you had to have known I was kiddin' ya  Tongue  But I still like the carvings as well...shows the finished product of his exceptional work.
