I wore my Kiva t-shirt this morning - and as I stepped out of our neighbourhood Women In Need store - this lady came up to me and said...

"Excuse me, but I noticed your shirt.  I just heard about Kiva last night and it is such a coincidence to see the name again today.  Is what I heard true?"

Well, needless to say, my morning is running about 15 minutes late but we had a lovely conversation about my favourite topic.

Although it may be unusual to start a new topic with a quotation from another thread, Jan's comment caused me to think about my Kiva apparel.  In my experience the most effective of my collection of Kiva gear is my "Wanna Help Buy a Goat?" shirt.  It has led to more Kiva questions and conversations by far.  A few people have initially thought the "goat shirt" was referring to Heifer International (certainly a worthy organization), but I still get to tell them about Kiva.
There was an election the other day in my state and I wore my goat shirt to the polls and was asked about it.  I've been using an explanation that I got from Peter (see http://www.kivafriends.org/index.php/topic,2385.0.html) and people seem to be responding.

I would be interested in the experience others have had with Kiva gear.

thanx Lynn - you guys had that discussion while I was on vacation - glad you pointed back to it again.

Perhaps I will print cards to carry in my purse to hand out on the street next time I am stopped.  While I wasn't short of words - quite the contrary, in fact Smiley that quote will help speed up my day.

"Kiva helps you lend from as little as $25 online to low income business owners in developing countries around the world.  When they pay you back -- which they do 99% of the time -- you can withdraw your money or lend it again to someone else. Go to kiva.org and check it out!"

so - let's get out there again and spread the word !
oops better wash that shirt before I wear it again Smiley

Laugh  Yes, my goat shirt has meant I do laundry more often.  I need to get a long sleeve one for winter, maybe two.  I may just go to an "All Kiva" wardrobe.  Maybe we could get them to come up with some kind of Kiva dress clothes, ties, etc. for more formal occasions.

On the more serious side, the idea of cards is great.  They could say kiva.org on one side and have the description on the other and they could be left most anywhere.  Hmmm....that's quite a good thought Jan.

Oops, almost forgot my question--Jan, which Kiva shirt do you have?
