Hi all,

A bit of this is posted elsewhere, but was hoping to hear from the Kivafriends crowd relating to a partly Kiva-inspired concept we just launched! The goal is to take the crowdfunding power of Kiva - lots of people with small amounts of money equaling large scale impact - and apply it to educationg.

www.educationgeneration.org

...has been up about a week. We've funded a few scholarships and on the way to a few more, and are poised to add partners, students, and begin trying to drive some traffic.

There has been a bit of discussion elsewhere, but basically, we have some kids to get through school - community leaders who have been accepted to their next year of schooling, but simply cannot afford to go.

What do you think about the concept, site, first impression, etc? Consider this the beta, we're sharing it with friends and tweaking away for now.

Launched through GlobalAFC.org, where our youth are managing a $91,000 kiva fund we've raised in the last year Smiley

Shawn,

This is a nice format.  I am keeping this in mind for once p2p, a US based non-profit, gets its notification of approved 501(c)3 status.  This is on my short list of areas of interest for fundraisers.

Just an update - we're closing in on the first $1000 raised and have completely funded 4 students for the coming school year in the less than 2 weeks since launching! We haven't even marketed yet....just told you guys and friends/family basically, so far so good!

Still would love to have any feedback, though I know the topic is slightly off, the crowdfunded mentality and the goal to facilitate direct connections here to the developing world remain similar, and its these parts we felt relate to the Kiva mission.

Still raising for our Kiva fund too, approaching $100,000!

6 students are now funded. But there are some Sri Lankan students that really need urgent funding.

Thanks Odd (and for all the fabulous feedback)! We're also rallying on this end to get funds for the Sri Lankan students (an unfortunate early deadline as the site launch was delayed).

We have asked the partner to ascertain whether they can help plug a funding gap if we fall short, and we have a small fundraiser in Vancouver on Sept 7th if they can extend the payment date in Sri Lanka - they actually disburse the money monthly so something may be worked out - but obviously not an ideal situation to depend on...

I think we can do it - thanks for the push! Will keep you posted as well Smiley

great site.

5 days to fund just over $1000 for the 5 remaining students from Sri Lanka seems pretty feasible to me, I will try to do my part. Where do you find partners, looks like you might need to add more students already!
