Thanks Marilyn, "Banker" and the other people here that have made a good push for the students needing urgent funding! We have a few donations in the wings it sounds like (though time is getting short) and I think we'll be very close...the partner for the Sri Lankan students (Rose Charities) is seeking some additional matched funding as well, if we fall short...will keep everyone posted! We are also talking with all the partners to have a new group of students on the site for September, all planning to head to school in January/February, including a new partner with a new group of scholars from Kenya! Great job guys!! I hope you get plenty of traffic so all these students can continue their education. I contributed to help Sridevi Sriskantharajah from Sri Lanka reach her goal. I encourage all Kiva Friends to visit www.educationgeneration.org & help these deserving students get funded. Here is Sridevi Sriskantharajah's description from the site: "Sridevi is the oldest of five children, three girls and two boys. Her family home was destroyed in the 2004 tsunami and her family lives in a single room in one of the transitional camps. Her father is ill and cannot work and the family face extreme poverty. Sending a daughter to university is far beyond their means.
Sridevi’s school principle writes “she is a hard-working, obedient and diligent person. She was very keen at studies as well as sporting activities. She has an exemplary moral character and good behavior.
Sridevi was awarded a scholarship of and has completed her first year at Eastern University, where she has passed all her classes with excellent grades. She cannot continue her studies further without financial assistance."
There are currently 11 students who still need funding; 5 of the students from Sri Lanka urgently need our funding by September 1. Please keep them in mind when considering your lending options. Thanks, Geoff

There are still 5 students from Sri Lanka who need our help. Please visit www.educationgeneration.org and see if you would like to contribute as little as $20 (or more) to help one of these deserving young men or women continue their education. They need to be funded by September 1, only 3 days left folks This is a great way to get your lending fix until the Kiva credits are available later today. Si Se Puede!!! Don Diego de la Vega aka G

I would just ask everyone to please take another look, or maybe a first look, at the well deserving students above. They could really use our help, especially the 5 students from Sri Lanka. Thanks, Geoff

Thanks for the push Geoff! Traffic is up, donations...after a big rush last week barely right now Come on people, lets make these few happen, we'll be posting more students in September but these are real kids waiting half a world away to hear if they're going to school next year...We have made no representations that we guarantee anyone funding, but man we would sure like to see these students supported. Thanks! Shawn www.educationgeneration.org

Thanks, Geoff Thanks for the reminder!!.. With the excitement of partial payments from Kiva I almost forgot. I have just added a donation to fully fund one of the students. I wish I could fund them all!!
So now there are 4 students from SriLanka who desperately need funding by Sept 1st. Does anyone else have $20 or so to spare for the education of one of these students!!
Thanks in advance!!
Susan

Just wanted to thank everyone who donated to a student at www.educationgeneration.org . i just checked the site and 2 more SriLankan students are now funded. There are now only 2 SriLankan students left to fund by tomorrow's deadline. I was interested to read the profiles of the students and many of the Srilankan students lost homes and family members in the Tsunami of 2004. Here are the profiles of the last two students:
Mohamed Aniffa Muthazar lives in the village of Pottuvil near Kalmunai Sri Lanka. His family is part of the small muslim community in a predominantly hindu area.
His village was extensively damaged by the tsunami in 2004 and Aniffa's family home and business was destroyed. His father has been unable to rebuild and the family live on a subsistence income.
Aniffa has been offered a place to study commerce, a monumental achievement for someone from his village, and his dream is to get his family back on their feet. There are no university fees in Sri Lanka but the student must pay for books, accommodation, meals and other expenses. These are way beyond his family's means.
Shanmuganathan’s family home was destroyed in the 2004 tsunami. He, his parents and three sisters have been living in a one room hut in a camp with 200 families ever since. His family income is 10,000 rupees ( or approx US$100) per year. Despite the difficulties of studying in such crowded conditions he passed his final high school exams with straight “A’s” and was awarded a place at the University of Peradeniya to study Arts. There are no fees for universities in Sri Lanka but the student must meet expenses for text books, residence, food and transport. These expenses are well beyond the means of his family.
Shamuganathan was awarded a Rose Charities scholarship in 2006 and has completed the first year of a three year program, passing all subjects with good grades. He needs $300 to complete his second year. He wants to graduate and help pay for the education of his younger brothers and sisters. Anyway, thanks again for responding to my previous post and funding a student.
Susan

Thanks Susan for reposting. You got here before I did Below are the links to the last 2 students who need to be funded by tomorrow. We only need another $420 folks. That is only 21 of the most marvelous, fantastic, intrepid, caring & wise Kiva Friends at $20 each! This is VERY DOABLE!! It would be a crying shame if Logitharaj couldn't continue his education because of a measly $20. Thanks in advance Geoff
