Kozima Kenjaeva has been a widow for the past 15 years. Since she lost her husband, all family expenses fall on her shoulders. Kozima purchases dried apricots from small markets in her town, processes them at home and sells them at the central market every weekend. She has to wake up early in the morning to get the best apricots available at the best price. A loan would help her to expand her business and to reach her dream of providing a high education for her children.

Jumagul Yatimova is the mother of two kids. Unfortunately, her husband died several years ago, so she had to find a way to survive and feed her kids. First she started by selling kilograms of flour at the market. Now she has a constant clientele who buy flour from her. But in order to keep her clients, she needs to expand her business and provide more flour. The money she gets from her business now is barely enough to feed her kids. So she decided to borrow money so that she can expand her business.

Born around 1966 in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, Mrs. Thérèse Marguérite Bokonontoun comes from Abomey. She never went to school and was hired out as a servant for 10 years in Cotonou, where she did daily housekeeping tasks. Then, after her marriage, she began to sell manioc flour. In the end, she found she preferred selling cooked food such as rice, maize porridge, beans, and pasta.
Mrs. Bokonontoun is seeking to satisfy her ever-growing clientele. For that reason she has requested her third loan in the amount of 150,000 F CFA. She was widowed just 6 months ago and is raising 2 orphans: Jérémie et Sonia. She is intending to stock up on maize (corn), rice, vegetable oil, etc.

I think this is a great example on how microfinance helps women to get self-reliant and to enforce their rights, especially as this is also a single parent loan.  Thumbs Up

Mrs. Olga Elvira is a member of the Road to Success Village Bank II and is president of the “Madres Purísima Concepción” Club. She is 50 years old and lives on “Espelucín 106 Pueblo Joven Aurora Díaz” Street, in the Salaverry district, in the province of Trujillo, in the department of La Libertad, in Peru. Olga completed her secondary education and like the very enterprising woman she is, she wanted to continue studying. However, her father was very macho and would not allow it. He only supported her studying basic secretarial skills, but even in her last few months of that, he no longer wanted to support it and had to support her mother instead. Olga had more brothers, and so her mother was unable to continue with support either. Olga got married and has one son, who is still a student. She has to work very hard for her son because she actually acts as both father and mother to him, since she has separated from her husband. She is a proactive woman, a fighter and does not allow herself to wane. She has a shop in partnership with her brother's wife and also creates a daily menu at her home. Her shop is located on Manuel Arevalo 108 de Aurora Diaz Street. With the first loan of 300 soles, which she repaid in four installments, you may remember that she used it to grow her store. With this loan of 2,000 soles, which she will repay in six installments, she plans to invest 1,000 in the shop and the remaining 1,000 to buy provisions for the daily menu. Thanks to the Manuela Ramos Movement she managed to overcome many taboos that were preventing her from moving forward as a person. Olga Elvira dreams of finishing her house and making it very nice and cozy.
