I haven't seen a loan for GHAPE in quite a while...

GHAPE loans available now:

Hostensia Sirri

Hostensia Sirri is a single mother with five children. Faced with the challenges of being a single mother, she finds it difficult to take care of her children, especially sponsoring their education. In addition she sustained a serious accident which had put her in abject poverty.

Faced with her low level of education she could not secure a good job for herself, thus she embarked on farming. Unfortunately for her, she did not knows what farming methods to use to improve on her output. Becoming a member of GHAPE, she was fortunate to have acquired some farming knowledge which has helped her improve on her farming techniques.

She has proven successful with her previous loans, which she had repaid with the progress she made buying and selling shoes. Given a new loan, she plans to invest it in farming and the selling of shoes.

Her activities will help her community in that she will be able to supply the market with basic foodstuffs. She will also provide the community with footware.

Nanki Raymonde

Nanki Raymonde was born in 1970. She is married and the couple is blessed with three children, all under 15 years old. She lives in a small house with three rooms with her family on Foncha Street, in a quarter in Bamenda, in the northwest region of Cameroon.

Raymonde has faced some challenges in life: the inability to meet the basic necessities of her family -- like clothing, food, and transportation, the inability to educate herself and her children, and difficulties in raising capital to start up a small business.

To sustain herself and her family, she plans to invest this loan into a phone booth business. With this loan she is going to buy two phones and transfer the credit and related bonus in the two phones which she sells to her customers. She believes the business will succeed because the previous loan she took was repaid by the income raised from an old phone of hers. Therefore, she concludes that she is sure the business will succeed. She is certain that this business will succeed because the services she renders are in high demand in the market. The loan will help her community because they will be able to afford food ingredients.

Raymonde will plough part of the profit back into her business and use part to care for her family. She also will use the proceeds to pay her children’s school fees and cater for the family. She prefers GHAPE because of the training she frequently receives and the low cost in obtaining and paying back a loan.

A new Kiva fellow arrived in Cameroon

   http://fellowsblog.kiva.org/2011/06/04/my-country-mountain-home/

Perhaps we'll get fresh news about MIS, computers, development of Ghape,...Huh?

I'm always sad when I see that Ghape is still 1 star ranked, because it's a great MFI. And I mean GREAT  not in size but for it's social impact!  If there would be star ranking for social impact (and I think this should be the most important star ranking for KIVA MFI's!) they should get 10 stars!

It's unfortunate, from the point of view of getting information about GHAPE to Kiva's wider audience of lenders, that there's a malformed link to the story on http://www.kiva.org/updates/kiva where it's currently #6 on the carousel arrangement at the top of the page

http://www.kiva.org/updates/fellows/2011/06/04/my-country-mountain-home

leads only to Kiva's "oops, this page is not found" error 404 message

Thanks for that heads up, Peter.  I'll get it fixed asap...
