It was wierd.  They were no where on the spreadsheet and one had $950 in the basket.  I sorted, searched.  It was no where.

Given the number of technical problems that were occurring with the API and the main site yesterday, I can think of several possible explanations.  Unfortunately, unless Kiva tells us exactly (or broadly) what went wrong, I won't be sure which, if any, of my suspected causes is actually correct.

I have just checked the numbers / values of loans that I posted in the LLL thread last night (which is calculated from the spreadsheet) and all of them seem reasonable when compared to the figures being generated now (after Kiva squashed the bugs) - so I think the problem was not with the API call returning the "fundraising" loans, but with the API call giving details of individual loans (which is where I assume you were seeing that there were still basketed amounts).

I just made a couple of loans and adjusted the donation amount.  Worked OK then.

I just noticed that on the Review & Pay screen each loan I make is showing as $0.00, though the total at the bottom is correct.  I reported it to contactus.

This is new, isn't it?  It shows (After applying Kiva credit) or something like that on the left side after the borrower name.  I think it's very confusing though.  I don't recall seeing this before...

I first noticed today that Kiva has started showing only the first 15 lenders on a loan, requiring you to click on a sneaky little "More" arrow in order to see the rest.  This more-arrow-clicking has been in place for a while for team, but I think it's just started for lenders.

As I posted on the Kiva Team Captains team on kiva.org, I don't so much mind it for the teams, but for the lenders? One of the most rewarding aspects of crowd-funding microloans is seeing the number of lenders increase and seeing the diversity of others joining loans you're interested in.  It's a part of what still makes this an engaging activity and brings me back as a lender.

I am hereby lobbying Kiva to reverse this change and allow the (admittedly sometimes large number of) lender photos to ALL be shown, without having to do something special to see them all.

I agree 100% about the lenders all showing.   I need all the loans to show so I can see if I'm already on the loan...   Tongue
I would also prefer to have all the teams showing.

Have you suggested people send a message to contactus?  Or should we post these on the suggestions team?  I'm not sure what the best avenue to get Kiva's attention is anymore.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention!

I too would like to still see all the lenders without having to find the "more" button.  But as soon as David expressed his desire that all teams show as well, I realize that there are too many variables to please everyone --unless Kiva finally gets around to having lender profiles store preferences. It really is long overdue.

I agree with Diane, please reverse it so we can see all lenders on any given loan.

I don't mind clicking to see the teams but please don't limit the lenders.

There are several reasons why I see a difference between clicking on the "sneaky More arrow" to see the rest of the teams on a loan and having to do it to view the lenders on a loan.

  • The header notes that the "Top 5 contributing teams" are shown. This makes sense, since the teams with the most participants on the loan are at the front.  It does not make sense that the first 15 lenders are in some way "Top 15", similar to the teams shown.  They're only the first 15, but by inference they become the ones that "matter" somehow.

  • As David mentioned, being able to quickly page down through current lenders on a loan helps determine immediately whether I'm already a lender and need not join a loan again (or on a repaying loan, whether it's one in my portfolio).

  • Teams were added long after lenders had been funding loans through Kiva.  It's other lenders I "grew up" wanting to see, I seldom bother to click to expand the team list.  It has always been possible to see all those who contributed at a glance, and I think it's an unfortunate step backward for Kiva to have collapsed the lenders into a pile.

[sigh....]
