...manually intensive process to create these maps...

Using Google Maps and saving each addition it is a fairly straight forward and quick process

There might be a (limited) market here for a tool that could take the loan listing and turn it into a marker on a Google Map, eh?  Wink

Some clever people have started to mashup the feeds from Kiva, so perhaps something is possible for the more technologically adventurous.

Okay, here's a link to the List of Kiva Lender Maps.  Hopefully, folks can help fill in the blanks, such as more links to Kiva lender pages.  Wink

This is certainly a valid warning! Let's not put our lenders in harm's way.

Henry - I think Matthias may just have read qwiksilver's post #9 on page 1, and was responding to that, and being new to Kiva Friends may not have realised that the conversation continued on pages 2 & 3, and didn't notice the "quote" button ..

Although I enjoy seeing the wealth and happiness spreading around the world, one caveat:

In a place where there is civil war, like Iraq.  Where a person might be harrassed for taking western aid or where a woman's life is more circumscribed, you might not want to map that person for their safety.  Women in certain Middle Eastern countries are taking their lives in their hands just getting the loan.  Having a well meaning person from the west give out their whereabouts might put them at further risk...

...which concern was answered by Ramon in post #10 (on page 2 of this thread..)

Matthias - welcome to Kiva Friends!   sorry if the above is not the actual explanation...

Peter

I did it the old fashioned way.  Just bought a large world map, pinned it to the wall, and marked where my entrepreneurs are.  Of course you have to have the empty wall space for this to work, but it is easier for me than a Google map.

That's what I've done. I got a 36"x48" corkboard & attached a worldmap to it & using different colored map pins I marked the entrepeneurs I've loaned to & also I've pinned all the countries that lenders are from. So far I've found 40 countries. It makes a very interesting display in my hallway & is a great opener to discuss kiva when visitors come.

I shall have to post a picture.
