Is it ever acceptable for KIVAfriends items to cross into KIVA.org's website??
Here is my question, just a day or two ago I posted a message into a lending team about joining KFriends, and made mention of the quilt at the same time. There have been NO negative reactions to this post. My thoughts after thinking about this have led me to asking my fellow KF's opinions.
Is it ever acceptable to bring an issue or topic from KIVAfriends into the Team Messages or to be more general The KIVA.org message system website at all?
Items to consider.... KF Project support - is it ok to promote a project we do for a school, class, individual, etc. Use of the KIVA messages to attempt to resolve an issue or contact someone from KFriends Use of KIVA's messages to talk negatively of any other team or KFriend

Just as something of an aside.... I think I'd be very sad if someone who wasn't even a KivaFriend were to win the quilt. I'm hoping it will go to the home of someone who has participated in this group, and where we can all imagine it warming their hearts and hearths. I know the idea is to expand the market of donators, but gee, if someone random were to win the quilt... that would be kind of disappointing. In other related news, I still can never (NEVER) open the Team pages for the teams I belong to, so I have no idea what kind of messages are being posted in any of them. --Diane.

Since this seems to be a case-by-case question, could you be a little more specific please, Henry?
I know a lot of subjects seem to flow back and forth these days, at least there is the potential for that.
Has anyone else experienced that?

It's an open question - all it is - don't read more into it than is there.

I think one needs to ask:
1. Would it serve Kiva's interest 2. Would it offend, annoy or be contrary to the wishes of the Team Leader(s) wishes 3. Would it bother the members either by content or just excessive emails coming to the group 4. Is it related to the goals, interests, desires of the group? Ex. If an agriculture issue were having a fund drive in KF, AND it were your group...it would be related to post a link to the drive to overcome flood issues in _____ [name of country]. Or a KF gathering in London might be of interest to the London Team, or even a microfinance speech in London.
This filter would probably weed out many issues. So if you are a Team Leader, you can drive your own members away and you pay the price. If you do it to another team, then think harder.

I prefere kiva kept as cleen as possible. I do not care much even for welcoming messages and smalltalk on kiva team messages, and lender messages. To me it all felt like intrusive spam, but I would very much receive relevant messages.
Now, with an English mile between each kivaloan, I do not find much use for team messages at all. But when things stabilize more, and when loan can hang for days, like before, then the message function can be a good tool to communicate when adequate loans are available for that specific team.

I surely would encourage using it especially for fundraising projects we do here on KF. It might be interesting for people, and those who don't want to receive messages opted out of it anyway. So I don't see a problem.

Just wondering why you would even ask this question... I saw the team message I think you mean, Henry, and I don't see any reason why there would be a problem. There are quite a few KivaFriends on that team (even saw Fiona's face and there wasn't any complaining here or at Kiva - you just used a good opening to advertise. You also posted links for people to come check out KivaFriends and that is good, in my opinion. (I do feel a little like Diane about someone we don't know winning the quilt cause I really had counted on it coming to my home. As a general rule, folks are pretty careful how they say what they say here at KF. Hopefully the same will happen on the Kiva site in the team and lender messages. I would still like a way to selectively accept or turn off the messaging tho. Some teams have a lot of small talk that could possibly be directed to threads here at KF. Other teams have a once in a while 'check out the loan' kind of post that I would like to receive. There I am, on that darn fence again jan
