Sheer guessing: this guy hasn't made a single loan and is just misusing Kiva for this purpose.

I've seen the message Ann referred to, and the guy has made some loans.

Matt Flannery mentioned a few weeks ago here, not long after the teams feature was launched, that he'd made a change "to restrict posting on team message boards to only users that have actually made loans", at http://www.kivafriends.org/index.php/topic,2667.msg42765.html#msg42765

The sincerity of someone's post within
what they considered the safety of their little group
is now being displayed for the cynical amusement of another
team.

Well jeepers, isn't that a generous and worthy
use of this Kiva Team concept. What is this,
sixth grade? Humph.

I guess the next step will be for kids like him to
join teams for the express purpose of leaving,
um, counterproductive messages?

By the way, this fellow writes that
he has since dropped out of that team.

What do y'all think? Am I being an old judgmental poop?
(Is that or is that not a straight line just waiting to be answered?)

I think that you are not a judgmental poop in any way shape or form.  What a pity that some people can only feel good about themselves when laughing at others.

I agree with Scott that the team captain could take control of the situation and make it clear that this sort of thing was out of bounds.  However, I think that not all team captains are actively managing their teams, and it perhaps might be appropriate to mention your discomfort to the captain of that team.  Sometimes a gentle nudge can make a world of difference.

"Our daughters can contribute just as much to society as our sons, and our common prosperity will be advanced by allowing all humanity - men and women - to reach their full potential. I do not believe that women must make the same choices as men in order to be equal, and I respect those women who choose to live their lives in traditional roles. But it should be their choice. That is why the United States will partner with any Muslim-majority country to support expanded literacy for girls, and to help young women pursue employment through micro-financing that helps people live their dreams." - President Barack Obama, June 4, 2009
