Kiva is turning 3 in October!  To celebrate, Kiva is hosting happy hours in major cities on Wednesday, October 8th starting around 5:00 p.m. local time and we want you to attend.

New York – The Volstead, 125 E 54rd St (between Lex and Third)
Chicago – Location to-be-determined.  Will know by 10/2 and will post location.
Washington DC – Front Page (Next to Dupont Metro Station), 1333 New Hampshire Ave NW
San Francisco – Royal Exchange, 301 Sacramento St (Embarcadero BART stop)
Boston – Tommy Doyles (Harvard Square area), 96 Winthrop St, Cambridge, MA – NOTE: The Boston event will start at 9pm on Wednesday night and there will be $2 Coors Lights and $5 international cocktails.
Austin – Location to-be-determined.  Will know by 10/2 and will post location.

Kiva’s 3rd birthday is a perfect opportunity to meet other Kiva lenders and to spread the word about Kiva.  Attend a Kiva Birthday Party happy hour and reach out to your friends, family, and neighbors to attend too.

FOR THOSE OF YOU NOT IN THESE CITIES, we encourage you to host a celebration of your own.  Please post here on Kiva Friends the location of your bash and the details and use the following naming convention: "Kiva 3 Yr Bash - HOUSTON, TX" for example.  Celebrations can take any form -- from an ice cream social, to a neighborhood party, to a get-together at a local coffee shop, to a happy hour at a local bar, to a gathering at your home.

At these celebrations, we would love for you to get out the vote for Kiva in the American Express Members Project.  Kiva is in the final 5 in the competition for the grand prize of $1.5 million!  Voting is open now until October 13th.

The grand prize could enable $30 million more loans to fund 60,000 more entrepreneurs so that they can lift themselves out of poverty.  Vote here: http://www.membersproject.com/project/view/P6KQEI

Voting for Kiva and getting out the vote is the biggest thing you could do for Kiva this year and it is the best birthday gift Kiva could ask for!

You can make a difference.  You can help Kiva enable more loans, to change more lives.

Thanks,

Lyndsey

PS – Attached is a flier.  Please print out copies and hand them out at the Kiva celebration you attend!

We have tried to apply for a card so we can vote - no go - only US addresses and Social Security numbers  apparently - so there is no point advertising with this very nice flier to other Canadians who also will not be able to vote.

Having a party is a great idea - and we can and will send positive energy waves south from here Smiley

Hi Jan and John - That is a good point. Unfortunately, only US cardmembers can vote.  I should have mentioned that in my prior post.  Thanks anyway for trying and thanks for the good vibes!

I would love to go to the San Fransico one except that it is a "happy hour".  Cry I am under 21 so I can't drink. Can I still come or is it adults only?  Huh?

I turned 21 in April of this year Smiley.

Are there anymore details on this venue? Who's going to be there or is just a bunch of Kiva users meeting up? Is the place formally hosting a Kiva event? I ask because we're being asked to hand out flyers!

I get to combine two of my favorite pasttimes... Cheesy

Although the Volstead is a pricey joint.

I am certain there will be non-alcoholic beverages available DanaLi, and I suspect that Kiva has made arrangements for lenders who are under 21.  I hope you will not let the fact that it is a Happy Hour deter you from attending.  The point will be to meet other Kiva Lenders and celebrate the occasion.

Hopefully I will see you there!

There are 3 enthusiastic Kivans in NYC planning this happy hour event. They will be there handing out fliers, taking pictures, talking about Kiva, etc.  If you would like to hold a separate event in NYC, you are welcome to do so.  You can use Kivafriends to spread the word about it.  Let me know if you have questions. Thanks for your interest!
