Help us give away $80,000
Squidoo is going to give away up to $80,000 to charity by October 15, 2008.
Since our inception, we've been focused on helping people spread the word about and raise money for causes they believe in. To date, our community has earned enough money to support several animal shelters, to build a school in Cambodia, to invest in an entrepreneur in Tanzania and to pay for cutting edge research into the causes and cure of Juvenile Diabetes. Among many, many other wonderful stories and successful donations. Thank you.
Along the way, Squidoo has also been saving up 5% of our total income (a very big number for a company our size) and now we're asking for your help in giving some of it away!
Here's how this works
One vote = $2
Vote for your favorite one of our Squidoo partner charities, in the poll below.
For each vote, we'll give that organization $2.
It's that easy.
We'll do it until October 15th, or 40,000 votes (which is $80,000). Whichever happens first.
Any vote after the 40thousandth, or after October 15th, won't count toward the $80,000 giveaway. But hey, the popularity contest can continue.
If we get fewer than 40,000 votes (which would be silly... it's free money for great causes) we'll roll the remainder into the Squidoo Charity Fund for the next payout.
Rules
The rules are straightforward, too
The Yeses:
* Yes, feel free to team up and invite as many people as you can to vote.
* Yes, it's entirely possible that one nonprofit could get the lion's share of the donations. It's all up to you.
* Yes, it's okay to blog about this.
* Yes, it's even cooler if, when you're done voting, you make a lens for your favorite charity. That's also free, and will give far more than $2 to the organization, month in and month out.
The No's:
* No, don't vote more than once.
* No, don't vote with multiple accounts. If we find you are, we'll cancel all your votes.
* No, there's no trick. We're really giving away as much as eighty thousand dollars.
* No, don't stop there! Go make a lens for your favorite charity. See the last Yes item above.
