I have just noticed that MIFEX has been given a "paused" status on Kiva.  I have some really wonderful education loans with MIFEX, so I sincerely hope that they will soon be able to resolve any financial issues that they are currently experiencing and are able to start operating on Kiva soon.

I have also some loans with OI WEDCO that are also overdue. Since there are repayments on these loans, I am quietly confident that these will be repaid soon.

Thanks very much for providing this update, Natasha!  Thumbs Up

I hope they don't use soon like I do... "Soon, I'm going to start exercising again..."

Are the MIFEX loans not being included in the delinquent calculation since MIFEX is paused? I have 3 loans (out of 18) that are now delinquent, but my delinquency rate is calculated assuming only two are. Any input appreciated!

Hi keesoonkim,

is MIFEX paused at the moment? (sorry, cannot look myself, now) When I last checked (Sunday or Monday), they were still "Active" IIRC.

Anyway, on the MIFEX MFI-page Kiva explains why they don't calculate MIFEX's delinquency rate (something to do with abnormal collection/repayment periods, mainly with agricultural loans) - probably that's the reason why they also don't regard individual MIFEX loans as "delinquent" and don't include them in your delinquency statistics. It should have nothing to do with the "Active" or "Paused" status. Just my guess, though.

Best wishes,
Wolfgang.

Strangely enough they are.. and they aren't...  Undecided Shocked  I suspect, really, that they are paused, but when I went to the Field Partner section on Kiva's site, the initial page that lists all the MFI's shows that MIFEX is paused, but when you click on MIFEX to get their 'profile' page, it says: "Fundraising Status: Active".

In a side note to this thread about Repayment of Loans, I just got my very first repayment notice in my email today!!!  Thumbs Up Grin Cheesy Wink Right on time! I'm that much more less of a newbie!

Has anyone any news concerning MIFEX loans (Ecuador)? I am still waiting for that promised ("soon") announcement from Kiva.  Cry

Thanks!

Lorna

Had the only outstanding one of mine listed as defaulted yesterday. Fortunately I only lost $7 and I take the view that if you can't afford to lose it then don't lend it (works with friends and family too!)

I have always found PeterS to be a fountain of information...

you're too kind, Lorna  Embarrassed

actually I don't have much of a clue about how Kiva calculates my own personal delinquency rate, which they're currently telling me is 1.32%.  As far as I can tell going by Christopher's excellent analysis spreadsheet, it should be more like 1.8%, if the calculation is "current principal balance of all Active Loans with one or more repayments 1+ months past due / amount of active loans" which the Kiva help for "My Loan Statistics" suggests it should be - see items #6 and #7.

I suspect RichardF might prove to be the KF with the best handle on this.  He well and truly got his head round the calculations for the default rate on the SEED defaults thread, starting around here, which eventually resulted in Kiva staffer Jonathan identifying a mistake in the way Kiva had been expressing default rates for individual lenders.  If Richard is motivated to do the same for delinquency rates, it all might become clearer.

Had the only outstanding one of mine listed as defaulted yesterday. Fortunately I only lost $7 and I take the view that if you can't afford to lose it then don't lend it (works with friends and family too!)

prompted by that, I went searching for MIFEX defaults, and see that there were 28 declared, all yesterday I assume. I can't at this stage see any information on the individual loan pages about the reason for the defaults. They all seem to be pretty old agricultural ones:

Let's hope there's better news "soon" about the other active MIFEX loans...

Thanks, Peter...for suggesting RichardF to respond to Howard's question and for the information on some of the recently defaulted MIFEX loans. None of mine were agricultural so I'm still a bit hopeful.
