I have always found PeterS to be a fountain of information...
you're too kind, Lorna

actually I don't have much of a clue about how Kiva calculates my own personal delinquency rate, which they're currently telling me is 1.32%. As far as I can tell going by Christopher's excellent analysis spreadsheet, it should be more like 1.8%, if the calculation is "current principal balance of all Active Loans with one or more repayments 1+ months past due / amount of active loans" which the Kiva help for "My Loan Statistics" suggests it should be - see items #6 and #7.
I suspect RichardF might prove to be the KF with the best handle on this. He well and truly got his head round the calculations for the default rate on the SEED defaults thread, starting around
here, which eventually resulted in Kiva staffer Jonathan identifying a mistake in the way Kiva had been expressing default rates for individual lenders. If Richard is motivated to do the same for delinquency rates, it all might become clearer.
Had the only outstanding one of mine listed as defaulted yesterday. Fortunately I only lost $7 and I take the view that if you can't afford to lose it then don't lend it (works with friends and family too!)
prompted by that, I went searching for MIFEX defaults, and see that there were 28 declared, all yesterday I assume. I can't at this stage see any information on the individual loan pages about the reason for the defaults. They all seem to be pretty old agricultural ones:
