Wells Fargo has a competition with two parts.  The first is for individuals, and the second is for organizations.  (Truth in advertising here.  I am not a contestant nor am I affiliated with any of the groups.  Just think it is a cool thing)  Here is the link:

http://blog.wellsfargo.com/somedaystories/

One of the individuals is an entrepreneur who is 17 years old and creating a magazine for girls.  That struck me as very Kiva-ish!  Another one is for a nurse who wants to create a hospice which seems very charitable.  EAch individual has won $1000 and is a contender for $100k!

The organizations are Boys and Girls Club, Habitat for Humanity, and Junior Achievement.  Fundacion Paraguay has a Junior Achievement program.

You do need to register, but it is a quickie thing to do.

It doesn't seem to require a bank account there, and the zip determines where the organization money goes, I think...

(and I read on the magazine that you can be international, but suggested putting the Yaldah, magazine entrepreneur's zip down.  Here is one that would be fun...Hornbrook, CA 96044.  Real small town with not much retail, jobs or anything. If you don't have a U.S. zip, you can put that down to help a small town with almost nothing to do...)

Thanks, Colette, for sharing this great site with us!  Thumbs Up

I think that the zip code has nothing to do with the organization getting money as you can select this as step 2 during voting. Therefore, I just tried to vote with my normal German zip code (10557) - and it worked. Any ideas for which American I might have been counted?

Mona, the implication I read was that the allocation of funds for the organization would be determined by zip.  It wasn't the Wells Fargo site, but a site about the young magazine publisher's account.  Not a huge deal either way as long as it is counted!
