The first time I talked about KIVA in my classroom was in the fall of 2007. I waited till school began to make my first loan so that my students could see what the process looked like. I brought them to the computer lab and let them loose on KIVA.org. They had a lot of fun scrolling through the Lender Profiles. Then I let them vote for our first investment - and here's the business we chose:

Well I saw the post about Campus Kiva, and I replied.

I think my biggest stumbling block will be PayPal. I can probably use mine and submit for petty cash to a point... but with bake sales and fundraisers I think my district requires us to have a group line number (on the balance sheets) and all payments have to be disbursed by checks. And I am not sure how to work with that for a long term funding and we're on break for another 10 days.

Getting the kids involved won't be a problem as our kids are required to do public service projects.

I'm grateful that my school is build around social action in so many ways. We started the Restorative Justice movement in high schools, as well as piloted equity training and projects for students and staff. Our Xmas food drive had me baffle as I had to move 1600 pounds of food myself lol.

I know the culture of the school would be very into Kiva. I sent the link to my principal and she immediately sent gift certificates for her nieces and nephews. So I know she'll be into it.
