Scott, this shameless plug is in your honor! If it is crossing any line, strike me dead or just remove it. I figured it was ok as am not asking for
I talked to Elle about this since someone helped me out with 4 transfusions.. I need to pay it forward and we agreed I'd wait until I am truly fully recovered to donate, but it will be a regular thing. -Scott

Scott,
I have a hot date with the local blood bank December 19. Already looking forward to the buffet of snacks! I was really impressed--nuts, dried fruit, juices, water, cookies and cheese. All individually wrapped.
I read somewhere that it is about 650 calories when you donate blood, so you can enjoy a few treats...
Take your time to recover Scott. Ya don't want to go back!
Colette

Another update. Scott apparently either
a) Likes hospital food b) Is under the assumption that he gets frequent flyer miles going to the hospital
He has been readmitted to the hospital for bacterial pneumonia. I spoke with him briefly, and he was getting antibiotics through an IV. At the time we spoke, he didn't know how long he would be going in for. I imagine that they will monitor him carefully now!
I will be in contact with Elle. If visitors are allowed, I might smuggle in some contraband.

In addition to passing on a wish for wellness, please urge him to take it real easy as he mends, because these things can be real dogs to shake off permanently. Even Kiva Friends and Christmas are not worth relapses. Dan

Phew, the same thing was happening again to me only this time we recognized it right away. The running theory is that I left the hospital 10 days ago with a tiny amount of bacteria still left in my lungs. It took 10 days to bloom into full blown bacterial pneumonia, but Elle and I went to the emergency room before it got more serious. The wait, we heard when we checked in, was 2 hours and 45 minutes, but exactly 7 minutes later, I was admitted through the double blue doors much to the chagrin of the peeved people still waiting. They saw it was their favorite customer on a return trip and they were all like what the heck is going on with this guy!?!!? I spent Thursday, Friday, and Saturday on IV antibiotics (Zosin, Cipro, Vancomyosin, Tobermyosin, to name what I can remember). They did the right job and knocked the fluid production right out of my lungs. I was feeling much better today and I put on my best "I'm feeling a lot better and don't you need this bed for people who are really sick" act to get out today rather than tomorrow - sleeping in the hospital is a weird thing when they wake you up every 4 hours for meds and the blood drawing folks like to show up at 3:30AM. Strangely enough, everyone complains about hospital food... I found it to be just great... scrambled eggs, ham, bagel, coffee = yum yum! But then again, I'm one of those trailer park raised kids...
Thanks for the notes and PMs.
-Scott

Scott, Great to hear that you you are well on the mend and out of the hospital. Maybe they zapped those "bugs" for good this time. I used to work in a hospital, and I would have been of those waking you every 4 hours... Elizabeth (Professional poker and prodder)
