4. According to tradition in Belgium, how does St. Nicholas travel from house to house delivering gifts to children?

After some searching I have discovered that Belgium's traditions vary slightly depending on the region.
In some parts of Belgium, St. Nicholas travels on a white horse delivering presents and in other parts he is accompanied and or rides a donkey carrying presents.

Question 11 - Part 2 -  Jane already answered the essence of the reason, but adding more information, specifically, England hosted King Haakon of Norway as a government in exile during WWII.  The Christmas tree set up in Trafalgar Square has been Norway's gift every year since 1947.

6. Who brings gifts for good children in Italy?

For many generations, the principal gift-bringer in some areas was a uniquely Italian folk character named La Befana who would distribute toys in honor of Epiphany, January 6th, when the season comes to its official end. In other areas (Venice and Mantova) St. Lucia distributed gifts and in some regions Gesu' Bambino, or Child Jesus, brought Christmas gifts. Due to modern communications, Santa Claus has made incursions into Italy's traditions, and now he makes his rounds in various regions on Christmas Eve as Babbo Natale, Father Christmas.
