Yes. thank you so much for this summary. It is virtually impossible for me to listen in, but this goes a long way toward answering my questions and sensing where Kiva is coming from-- and where it is going.
One thing bothers my though. The following is the pertinent summary:
"Question: is it possible to get a statement from Kiva each year of contributions, for IRS purposes? - preferably as a PDF on Kiva official letterhead. Answer: referred questioner to My Portfolio / transaction receipts export. Nice feature request though."
I think they better have their counsel and CPA check out that answer. It is more than a feature. It is an IRS requirement (in the US) in order for an individual to claim a charitable deduction. I raised this issue last year.
Dan
Actually I think that on the call lenders were directed to the "Donations" section of their portfolio page. There are five sections: Overview / Loan / Gift Certificates / Donations / Invites. When you click on the donations section a list of donations will come up under this header: Below is a list of donations you have made to Kiva. We will use these funds to cover operational costs so that we may expand our reach. Kiva is a Section 501(c)3 charity and has provided no goods or services in exchange for your contribution. Please consult with your tax counsel regarding the deductibility rules that apply to your gift. Does this comply better with the requirements you mention Dan? -Kerry-

Kerry, that's better...at least it is just the donations. But it gives a spreadsheet file instead of a receipt....and it doesn't have Kiva's full information as required by law.
Fortunately I am able to get a screencap of it online to use, but then I have not made a great number of donations this year. I tend to do it all at once. If there is no receipt for tax purposes, that will have to be considered when making next December's donation.

Actually, the email confirmations come pretty close to meeting the IRS requirements. The only question I would wonder about on them is that the name "Kiva" is of course well known to us, but I suspect it doesn't equate to the name the IRS has for the 501(c)(3) organization they have on file. Perhaps upon audit a taxpayer could supply the legal name -- and if necessary the address if followup is necessary. I do doubt that an Excel spreadsheet export is by itself sufficient. The format is too open to the recipient (read that manipulatable) before becoming a "written" record. Dan (just my two cents-- which I have a few extra of in my credits)

Thanks so much Diane and Peter for your ability to listen and take notes! That isn't my forte, so I always appreciate it when others can do the job. Thanks also to Kerry for her summary during the chat. My connection wasn't the best, so had difficulty hearing the questions asked. It was that summary that helped the answers make lots more sense! There was one thing asked that I didn't see mentioned, and it was Geoff's question was about Yamida (Yayasan Mitra Dhuafa), the four star, pilot MFI in Indonesia, and why none of their 13 loans had any record of paying back since August and what the status was for those loans. ( http://www.kiva.org/app.php?page=businesses&partner_id=79&status=All&sortBy=New+to+Old) It seemed that Geoff's question took Kiva by surprise. They had no information on if it was just a computer glitch, or if it was an issue with the MFI. They said they would definitely check into the issue and get back to KF about it.

Yes, Thank you so much for the summary! I hope my previous post didn't sound impatient. I thought I must have missed it, that perhaps that it was posted in a different thread. I wasn't trying to be pushy! I really appreciate getting a chance to read this, since I can't make it to the calls at the time they're scheduled.

Tatiana - you & me, both. I'd managed to completely miss this thread & didn't even know where to start looking for a summary post, let alone to wait for one in here. - Much thanks, Peter, for the link to here, & of course for the summary post. I'm so relieved to hear that Kiva is looking into Suzan Hamoudeh's case & had ironically only tacked that q on to an email to Gerard just the other day. Hopefully an answer soon.... And also glad for MIFEX lenders that there is a focus on recovering what (if any) money possible through the most practical means. Overall, sounds like it was a pretty positive sort of call..? BTW - Eli ages ago had mentioned privacy "glitches" for borrowers who needed their full name to be withheld. Was this discussed during any of the talk of privacy? Or has that already been resolved? I really need to catch up on news around here, lol... Thanks again, Peter & all who helped keep notes.

Michelle, As far as I can recall the only privacy issues mentioned on the call were in regards to the Developer program. However, Kiva is aware of the issue you mention. It is on Wolfgang's ongoing list in the CS/Bugs thread. As far as I know this has not been resolved, but the partners have been advised about the breach (and perhaps are withholding loans that may be affected). -Kerry-

I have only noticed this on one or two loans though, so will continue being diligent in case there is still a glitch.
