I am just curious.  Some of the borrowers show "raising funds" but when you go to their detail page there is a "loaned so far" amount and an "amounts in other baskets" figure.

How long is funding left in baskets unpaid for?  I mean, does the system clear these amounts as soon as the would-be lender leaves the website, does the system clear everything at the end of the day, does the system leave the amounts there until manually removed, etc.

I haven't noticed any borrower being stranded for days or anything, this is more just a piddly question that came to me when exploring the site and pondering the whole funding process.

Kivafriends.org scrambled and respelled is "Risk And Forgive."  Of course, it also can be respelled "Asked For Virgin" and "Darer of Vikings" and even "Vinegar For Kids" but those are a lot less interesting.

Give a man a fish and he eats for a day.  Smack a man upside the head with a fish and you have his complete attention.

I'm sure others, especially the Kiva staff, can give you an exact answer, but I've seen amounts in baskets more or less become available again after about 2 or so hours of idle time. So I'd guess around there is how much time they give someone to complete a transaction unless they change their mind and physically remove it from their basket, which I assume would make it available again in the "Still Needed" section right away.

For those who don't know, the basket amount is the amount added by people who have clicked the lend button but have not checked out yet. Sometimes it can be annoying if you find someone who you really want to help but can't get in because "still needed" is at $0 and the "in other baskets" section has like $175 pending. In fact, I think Julia recently posted about checking a business repeatedly that had money in a basket, and being able to jump in after it was released when someone didn't checkout.

Glad you got your lost money issue worked out and you're giving Kiva another chance!
