I am an active lender on KIVA site and have lent to over 30 businesses so far. On Friday, Jan 16; I received an E-mail from KIVA with the subject "Your Kiva Credit is now available for use". The E-mail stated that a total of $76.99 has been repaid. However; when I logged into my KIVA account; I saw that I had only $58.36 of Kiva Credit available. Can someone please tell me why there is a discrepancy between these two amounts?
Al,
This post from Wolfgang gives the most likely explanations:
Here are two possible explanations (with A much likelier than B):
A. The statement you received probably refers to all repayments you have received during the previous month (it's a new default - you can change it to daily statements, see below). So you might have withdrawn or re-loaned part of these repaid credits before January 15.
You can check if this is the case and change your e-mail preferences like this:
1. Access the section "My portfolio" on
www.kiva.org - you will have to log in to do so
2. On the left hand side you will find some links - click on "My account".
3. A screen with your personal info should appear, just below the page title "My account", there are three categories with "My info" highlighted.
3a) Click on "Transaction History". Access the last page(s) of your Transaction History (you will find links to the pages on the bottom part of the page). From there you can see the recent transactions regarding your account. Compare it to the email you received from Kiva. This should show you why the amounts don't match.
3b) Click on "Email Preferences". Select "Send me Repayment Notifications... No more than once a day". Click "Save Email Preferences".
B. Quite recently, Kiva overpaid on some loans; on January 15/16, they reversed these overpayments and charged the respective lenders' accounts - sadly - without notifying lenders of these charges, so far. You can check if this is the case from the transaction history (see A).
Best wishes,
Wolfgang.
EDIT: You have two loans taken out on Jan 9 (or thereabouts), so I would bet that explanation A is the one that matches your situation.
To avoid confusion with these "Credit available" emails, the wording on later emails seems to have been changed to give an indication of the period over which the credits have accrued - at least the "daily" emails now say "has been repaid today", so I assume the monthly ones will say "has been repaid in the past month" or similar.
