I'm not sure if anyone can help me out with this, but I'm looking for some extra information on the Kiva Fellowship Program (where you volunteer for at least 10 weeks to go over to a host MFI and work with them and journal for the loan recepients).  I have specific questions such as how involved is Kiva in setting up your stay there, training, setting goals, etc.  If anyone has any extra info on this that isn't in the website it would be much appretiated.

Also if anyone has a contact for someone who has done this so far I'd love to talk to you.

Hi -

Thanks for your interest in being a Kiva Fellow! Have you checked out our *new* pages on the Fellows program? In particular, please see our FAQ: http://www.kiva.org/about/fellowsFAQ/ and to learn more about what's going on in the field, check out our Fellows' blogs: http://fellowsblog.kiva.org/

Also, if you have specific questions, you can email kivafellows@kiva.org with your questions, although our FAQ is pretty comprehensive.

Cheers,

Anushka

The new page is exactly what Ive been looking for.  I've been checking the Fellows blog every single day.  Now I'm just trying to save enough money to take a few month off and do the same thing!  Thanks for all the great info.

hello everyone. i just wanted to say something here as well. im a student, currenlty living in norway. I attend the kaospilots, we are a 3 year study that works with social entreprenouring, innovation and we are currently on the look for a place to go one outpost. basically , that means we take all 40 students and travel to a different country and work with social entreprenoring , instead of just reading about it all the time. SO the fellow program looks very intresting and if anyone here would like to talk more about this with me, feel free Cheesy
Peace

cfhovind, have you read through the info relating to the fellows program on kiva.org?

http://www.kiva.org/about/aboutfellowsprogram/
http://www.kiva.org/about/fellowsFAQ/

Most likely you have but if not, there is a decent amount of info on the fellows pages...also be sure to follow the blogs from some current fellows...they can be quite inspiring, humbling, and insightful.  If you have any specific questions about the program, dont be a stranger, be sure to ask here in the forum.  What we cant answer, Kiva themselves Im sure would be happy to answer for you.

where to post this? this old thread will have to do...  Wink

calling all Kiva Friends in or near Washington DC

new Kiva Fellow Julie Ross (from Alexandria, VA) is heading out to Tanzania on July 23rd, to work initially with BRAC Tanzania, and has organized a little house party fundraiser evening on Monday June 30th "to help me raise $1,971.30 to pay for my plane ticket from Washington to Tanzania".

Quote
[...]

Your donation of one of the below amounts will buy you a cup for all of the beverages you can drink. Bottoms up!

$20
“I can rationalize parting with this much because if I have 4 beers I’ll have consumed my money’s worth.”

$31
“If 36% of the population there lives on less than $1/day, here’s a month’s pay”

$58
“Stop toying with the idea of getting malaria and buy yourself two months of anti-malarial drugs.”

$100
“If we’re really going to get rid of you, we’re going to need you to enter that country legally. Buy yourself a visa.”

$256
“To move from Tanzania to another East African country after 3 months will require another plane ticket. Here’s a flight from Dar to Nairobi.”

With your support and my on-the-ground presence, we can work together to help alleviate poverty in the developing world.

[...]

Sounds like good fun in an excellent cause. I'd go, but for the intervening 3000 miles or so of Atlantic ocean...  Smiley

Thanks for the shout-out, Peter!  By way of introducing myself, I just wanted to let you all know that I am Julie, the new Kiva Fellow that Peter mentioned.  I'd love for any of you who live in the D.C. area to come by on Monday night so we can meet face-to-face!  It should be a good time--and will hopefully serve its other purpose of making this fellowship financially possible.

I'm sure we'll be speaking more soon . . . and hopefully my blog posts will be sufficiently entertaining!

Hi, Julie! I live in Alexandria, too (far west end) but I won't be available that day. Maybe I'll see you in the future. Good luck!

Hello, Julie!

I work about 30 miles from there, so I'll be stopping by.  It'll be good to actually meet some fellow Kivans.

---

I actually did stop by -- read all about it here.
