Hmm, yes Ian, I am also very curious to know if there is a privacy breach of some kind at Kiva that might be affecting all of us?

Your quote of course comes from Kiva's Privacy Policy

Quote
Privacy Policy

   1. Kiva will not rent or sell your personal information to third parties.

   2. By default, you will receive update emails on your loans that are sent by our field partners through the Website. Kiva will not disclose your email address to our partners in any case -- these emails are sent through a webform without any third party learning your address. You can choose not to receive these emails through a preference on the Website.

   3. By default, you may receive periodic newsletter emails from Kiva. The frequency of these newsletters may vary but will be no greater than once per month. You can choose not to receive these newsletters through a preference on the Website.

   4. Kiva will not disclose your personally identifiable lending activity to any third party without consent. Kiva reserves the right to record and display anonymous lending activity on the Website and display the general regions where our lenders are located.

   5. We take privacy seriously and we value yours.

If there is an issue with information being made available in violation of the policy I am sure we would all benefit from knowing more.  Please do tell us what prompted this thread?

(I'm sorry if anyone became overly concerned about my earlier post.  I was just so cheesed off at Kiva that I needed to rant, but I didn't want to write too much because the post would have just ended up with lots of "$#@!$%!"s in it from where I would have been censoring the words I would have liked to have used.  It's taken me about 12 hours to calm down enough to post this.)

I was upset at bug #14 again.

I had credited my account with another USD$25 last night, and didn't notice until this morning that my PayPal billing information was once again being splashed all over the Kiva website.

I guess it's partly my fault for
a) having forgotten about the bug, and
b) having assumed that Kiva would have taken privacy seriously enough to have fixed a privacy-breach problem in the 2 months since it was reported.

What gets me is that PayPal assures me that it is a very simple change for Kiva to fix this, and yet they don't bother.    Grrrrr!!   Pissy

Ian

(And, yes, I know that putting dummy information into the account information would protect my privacy, but I shouldn't have to do so if Kiva are genuine about valuing my privacy.)

WOW,

have you written them (again)? Otherwise I suggest Diane bring it up in the liaison call with Liz.

Written to them (at least three times), and made sure it was included on bugs list.  Not sure what else I can do.

Perhaps I should threaten them with legal action - do you think I can get Wolfgang to represent me? Cheesy

Oli is a lawyer

I had forgotten that Oli was a lawyer too!  I don't know whether I could afford two lawyers though.  (Heck, I can't even afford one!!)  Do you think I could talk them into taking the case on pro bono?

Pro bono?  Laugh Yeah, good one...

What I did, though, was to "prioritize" the bugs list in its latest re-post (http://www.kivafriends.org/index.php/topic,2948.msg55749.html#msg55749), so it's now bug #1.

Best wishes,
Wolfgang.

I think you make a very valid point here Ian.  Kiva mkes the claim that lender privacy is valued, and yet even knowing about this issue they have not prioritized a fix for it.

Let's definitely put this issue on the next Liaison phone call agenda.
