After some of us learned about the book:
Of Beetles and Angels: A Boy's Remarkable Journey from a Refugee Camp to Harvard, by Mawi Asgedom
from reading about it on a DonorsChoose project called:
'Refugee Children with Stories to Tell'
a few of us have decided to follow in Fadumo's footsteps (the young lady who requested reading the book for her class) and read the book together.

The KivaFriends Book Club has been created from the inspiration and mutual interest in this book.  Our purpose is to enlighten and enrich our lives with meaningful stories, and share lively discussions with our KivaFriends.

So PM me your interest in joining the KivaFriends' book discussion, get yourself a copy of Of Beetles and Angels, and we'll get this club up and reading!

The details of our first gathering can be determined at a later date.

Ah modernity. You can read this on your iPhone, or Kindle if you have one, for $8.  However, I think I'll stick with the library copy I found.

I did just add the Kindle app for iPhones though, and download some $3 F. Scott Fitzgerald. It looks surprisinglyly readable.

I'm the writer of the proposal and this is absolutely awesome! I'd love to read along with you and hopefully my class can be on the same schedule. You input would be so valuable to the significance of this project!
Thanks!

Wow, Mrs. C., welcome to KivaFriends!  This is so exciting that you've joined us here, and that we might be able to read along with your class!  I'm sure I'm speaking for everyone when I say we're so VERY pleased you're here, and we're looking forward to your project being funded and to sharing our first Book Club book with you and your students.

Welcome

Sometimes words just don't come fast enough when you are so caught up with the circle of how things fall into place.  This is one of those moments.  Mrs. C., I'm so grateful that you have come and joined in with our group.  It is with great honor that we welcome you to our book club.

wow. The response to the book club is remarkable.  I am excited for everyone to get their books so we can get started.
FYI on Mrs. C's donorschoose project, there is $120 remaining.  http://www.donorschoose.org/donors/proposal.html?id=252056&zone=0
