Actor Hugh Jackman plans to donate $100K to a single charity to anyone who can convince him (via Twitter in a 140 characters or less) why that charity is worthy.  Anyone up for the challenge?  This would be a great opportunity to get some more "star power" to help promote Kiva's mission.  Hugh plans to announce his pick on April 24th.

If ever there was a thread crying out for my input this is it.  I know there are many people here who don’t know who Hugh Jackman is.  Here’s what you non-Australians need to know:  he’s a decent Australian fellow, famous in the entertainment world, and he wants to give away some money.   Let’s help him with that!

There’s good news and bad news.

Good news:  Kiva may have an edge here.  Mr. Jackman is a fan of Muhammad Yunus.

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hugh_Jackman:
As a philanthropist, Jackman is a longtime proponent of microcredit — the extension of very small loans to impoverished prospective entrepreneurs in undeveloped countries. He is a vocal supporter of Muhammad Yunus, microcredit pioneer and the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize winner.[32][33][34]

More good news:  Kiva has a strong Australian lender presence.  The main Australia lending team is SEVENTH out of 6044 teams, has over one thousand members, with almost 5000 loans that total $140,650 (and climbing!)  And that’s only ONE team of Australians!  There are more!   How can Mr. Jackman resist such powerful testimony from ordinary (but really, EXTRAordinary) Aussies?

Are you a member of an Australian lending team?  Please help Kiva by posting a link in your team messages to this thread!

The bad news:
I don’t Twitter.  At all.  And I suspect few KFs do, based on how quickly this thread got buried.  But I DO understand the concept of “messages 140 characters in length about your favorite charity.”

So, to those Twitter-using KivaLurkers out there (yes, YOU) the next post contains twenty 140-characters-or-less messages written for ANYONE who can Twitter them.  I give you permission to use, borrow, steal, alter, humorize, or otherwise improve on these messages.  My only request is that you GET BUSY – Mr. Jackman announces a winner on 4/24.

Excellent!  And that brings up my next point:

You Non-Twitter-Using-KFs out there....yes YOU.  I see you trying to walk past this thread!  Stop right there!   Stop!

I can name at least 10 KFs who write MUCH better than I...I challenge each and every one of you to come up with a handful of 140-character messages stating why Kiva is great and POST them in this thread.  I am going to do my best to direct some Twitter users this way -- give them some beautiful lines to work with!

We have roughly SEVEN days to accomplish this!

Ok, if someone could tell me in easy words how to add my comment to Mr. Jackman's page (I tried but could not find where to enter my recommendation), I would love to add my 5c, too.  Grin

Hey Nonny,
I know Henry is on Twitter.  Maybe you can convince him to be your "Twitter Ally."

I do good finding my way around here.  Sad

I know totally nothing about Twitter.  No

I like to see what under the water before jumping in. It look like signing up is easy. But, once we are in, do we find Jackman somewhere to tell our 140 to?  Huh?

Well, I think I have an idea how it work.   Thumbs Up

I hope my e-mail is hidden??  Pissy

OK, I am in  Ok!
