I've decided to loan all of the cash raised by my eBay spelling mistake finder to Kiva over the next year.

Typozay

Here's the blurb which describes what it does:

Quote
Auction spelling mistakes = fewer bids = cheaper prices.
Typozay lets you find them. It's safe, easy and costs you nothing.

It doesn't usually raise that much - around $50 or so (but maybe if more people use it - it'll raise more).

Does anyone use the Firefox search bar to search for stuff on eBay? If so - it wouldn't be that difficult for me to make some eBay search plugins which supported Kiva if there's any interest.

I use Firefox. Does your search only search ebay? that would be cool. I would use it.
I use Goodsearch as a default on my search, and the money goes to KIVA. We raised $10 last month.
thanks,
Julia

Ramon,

If you'd like a banner made for the link, email me as I'm glad to help customize (free to the cause) for you or anyone else!

Typozay only searches eBay so you should still use Goodsearch for your Google type stuff. I'll look at creating some links tomorrow and some search plugins a little later.

OK here are some links for eBay which will support Kiva:

eBay.com (US)

eBay UK

eBay Australia

eBay Belgium

eBay Canada

eBay France

eBay HongKong

eBay Italy

eBay Singapore

eBay Sweden (Tradera)

eBay India

eBay Netherlands

All you have to do is click on the one relevant to your country and then use eBay as normal. Webmasters and bloggers just copy the full link and format how you like.

In general - payments are made for winning bids and new active registrations (so if you haven't already got an eBay account now would be a great time to get one!)

And here's my lender profile page:

OK - just an update. Thanks to people like you using Typozay, the portfolio is growing quite nicely.

This month I have enough commission to make 4 X $25 loans (or 2 X $50 etc) and I'd like you to suggest where it should go. Post your replies below.

The existing portfolio is here btw.

Thanks, greencat! That's great!  I added your lender page and a link to this topic at  List of Kiva Group Lenders.   Cheesy

Oh yeah, when they're available, I'm always a sucker for the artsy stuff. My second choice usually is in the agriculture area.  Smiley

Never seen any art loans - but I'll keep an eye out.  I've added another couple of argricultural loans (anything food related is a favourite of mine too).

June - after a slow start - is looking to be a bumper month thanks to all of you using the links above.

greencat, just today there was a loan for a young man in Chad who is an artist and is setting up a painting studio/workshop... but with a practical eye, wants it to be capable of serving as a barber shop also. Smiley  I love reading people's stories.

Artists and craftspeople are my favorites.  I felt lucky to get in on this one the other day:

http://www.kiva.org/app.php?page=businesses&action=about&id=11799

I loved the artist in Chad, too.  My nephew tried to help out with that one, but was far too late (he doesn't get up early enough in the morning).

Safe travels,

On another thread they were talking about arts-related loans, and look at this one: Ballet Grabas, in Chad!

http://www.kiva.org/app.php?page=businesses&action=about&id=12556

They're looking for money to replace costumes and instruments for their performances.

I love Kiva.  Smiley

...And it's still open!  Smiley

Yes, it showed as "$1200 Raised so far" and then BLAMMO!  there was $225 left to fund.  I guess someone had it in their basket and didn't check out, or had a (very big!) change of heart.

These things are like buses - you wait ages for one and then a bunch come along together. I'll definitely keep some of this month's commission aside when it rolls in for an arty project since it seems a popular choice.

By the way, I think it's finally dawned on me that while I often see the "No businesses found." message in the "Arts" sector; what I also think of as artsy, Kiva calls "Crafts" and "Patchwork" "Activity," listing these businesses in the "Clothing" sector. Unfortunately, we can't "search" by the activity field.  Shocked Roll Eyes This looks like a "suggestion" in the making.

My bookmarks to help me track down these artsy gems look like this:
* Search Arts, In Need, New to Old
* Search Clothing, In Need, New to Old

p.s. Why do I keep putting everything in "quotes"?  Huh?

Here is a link to a current "in need" borrower from Mexico, an artist (fabrics):

http://www.kiva.org/app.php?page=businesses&action=about&id=12621

She still has a ways to go, so you may see this before her loan is funded.

OK I've managed to make enough to make 8 loans this month. 6 are already allocated (including one arty one!). Let me have your suggestions for other business Typozay should fund this month.

Just a quick update.  There's now nearly 40 loans funded by Typozay since May.

WOW!!! That tool is neat!  I use ebay all the time and that could be really handy.

How is it making money?  Does ebay pay a fee or something for referring people to them?

Sorry for not posting earlier.  Exactly right redstarr - eBay give a little tip of the hat if you end up buying something after using Typozay.

So far I'm up to 68 loans. I don't want to jinx it but I might be able to make a special number in a couple of months time.
