As of this morning 4/27 Play Pumps was in 3rd place with a 2 donor advantage.  I was mistaken when I said multiple contributions could be made by one  person.  It updated just as I did a second contribution and thought it was mine, it turned out not to be.  So each donor is only counted once, whatever the contribution.  So like Diane said, $10 (which is the minimum) from many people can make a difference.  Yeah for play pumps!  http://www.globalgiving.com/pr/1600/proj1556a.html

I think there is a possibility that it may check your IP address and use that to tell whether you have donated before or now; I intend to make another small donation tomorrow morning from my office, so I will see at that time whether it recognizes me as a new donor in the count.

Will you let me know if it works for you from your office.  Then I can use another computer if the count is still close.

I am also donating $10 to PlayPumps. Wow I love GlobalGiving! I am making a gift registry there for my birthday.

Not to detract from the giving..but when I went to the site to give a donation I saw this.  So not 100% of your donations is going to the charity.   Just a FYI Smiley

About GlobalGiving
All donations go through the GlobalGiving Foundation, a registered 501(c)3 organization, which receives a nominal 10% fee. This helps cover the cost of operating the marketplace - finding and researching projects, attracting donors, and building our website.

So then I went to BBB charity report.  Global giving report

Play pumps International report

To me the BBB is more for oversight of businesses in the marketplace that offer a product to consumers in the United States and Canada.

What I feel is most important for a nonprofit organization is to be registered and reporting to www.Guidestar.org, an organization that oversees non-profits.  Both PlayPumps International and Global Giving are registered with Guidestar and have their tax form 990's reported for multiple years with Guidestar for anyone to view.  I'd post a link to their forms, but you have to register to view them.  Registration is free.

Thumbs Up

Another headcount for PlayPumps!  I just clicked.  Great site, I hadn't seen GlobalGiving before.  I'll definitely be going back.

If you're interested in water delivery issues, for places that don't have suitable boreholes, you might also look at the Hippo Water Roller:  http://www.hipporoller.org/

And here's a detailed set of responses on the benefits and challenges of the Hippo project: http://www.changemakers.net/node/6924

One of the things they didn't mention in the Changemakers review is that people in militarized areas have found a great positive side effect: if you have to walk through a minefield to get your water, rolling across it with 90 liters of water instead of your foot makes a big difference.  In addition to saving lives, it's letting the people walk faster through dangerous areas, reducing water-fetching time even further.

Clearing my cookies and using a new email and credit card from my office (new IP) made my new donation in honor of my parents count from the office towards the total number of donors, in addition to my personal donation from home this weekend.

Well, PlayPumps tied for 3rd place and got $1000 extra! (Or shared it?)
