I suggest Kiva.org make it possible to transfer PayPal funds into a lender's Kiva account directly. Currently funds can be transferred out but not in, as I understand. The gift certificate process can be used as a back door to funding one's own Kiva account.

It would encourage more lending through an account if funds could be added directly from PayPal and at will, without having to choose entrepreneurs at that same time.

For example, a lender (or lender group) might want to add $100 regularly to their Kiva account from their PayPal account. But, funding might be at a different time than the action of making specific loans takes place.

It's always best to provide the simplest and most direct route for gifting (aka lending)!

A good idea for sure. Additionally Kiva could also generate some interest off of the inactive capital to help defer operational costs.

I quite like this idea, though not sure of the mechanics of it.  When I first started loaning with Kiva, my intention was to donate a regular monthly sum (the same way I would if I was sponsoring a child through an agency like World Vision).  The idea was that I would then, over the years, just build up and build up an increasing "pool" of money that could be lent over and over.  The thing is, I'm a bit of a slacker, and I forget to log on and look for businesses to loan to.   If I could set up an automatic payment system, and get a little reminder email each month (eg "You have just deposited $100 into you Kiva account.  Log on now to decide who you will loan this money to."), that would make me feel more relaxed about the whole thing.  I'd like to be able to make the commitment once, and then rest assured that it will continue, rather than having to "decide" each month if I can spare the extra cash.
