For those who follow GHAPE, they have one loan up this morning.

Doh Patrick Acho

Patrick is married to two wives and has seven children. His greatest wish is to see his children become responsible citizens in the future, so he toils relentlessly to make this wish a reality. He joined GHAPE in 2007 and received his first loan of 40,000FCFA ($40) which he invested in pig farming. Realizing that pig farming is a lucrative business, there is need for expansion.

If given this new loan, Patrick plans to expand his pig farm by buying four piglets, pig feed and materials to repair the pig house. The profit he gets from the loan will be used to educate his children and repair his house.

14-month monthly repayment terms, currency risk covered

"Our daughters can contribute just as much to society as our sons, and our common prosperity will be advanced by allowing all humanity - men and women - to reach their full potential. I do not believe that women must make the same choices as men in order to be equal, and I respect those women who choose to live their lives in traditional roles. But it should be their choice. That is why the United States will partner with any Muslim-majority country to support expanded literacy for girls, and to help young women pursue employment through micro-financing that helps people live their dreams." - President Barack Obama, June 4, 2009

GHAPE up:  Cheesy

Nanga Marcelline

Nanga was born on the 1971 and is married to a very supportive man. They are blessed with five children, four who are younger than fifteen. She lives in a four room house the Nstualam quarter of Bamenda, Cameroon. Before becoming a member, Nanga underwent surgical operations twice during child birth. She joined GHAPE in 2007 and has since benefited enormously through their help. With her previous loans she succeeded in providing her community with table birds for food and manure for farming.

With the third loan, she plans to buy a motorbike. Her son will be riding the motorbike. She will reinvest part of the profit into her business for expansion. She will also use part for food, clothes, school fees, and hospital bills.

The Grounded and Holistic Approach to People's Empowerment (GHAPE) is a non-profit NGO based in Bamenda, Cameroon. GHAPE works towards the empowerment of the poor and poverty alleviation through a highly multi-faceted approach. Every client is trained in business management, basic health, life skills, financial management, profits and losses, and family values. Clients are also required to contribute a small amount into a personal savings account; most clients save much more than the minimum requirement. GHAPE instils a sense of family and community within its clients and staff and has developed a strong bond of trust between the organization and its clients.
