Magdaline Awabeng - Mile 90nsongwa Nwp, Cameroonhttp://www.kiva.org/app.php?page=businesses&action=about&id=126717&_tpos=3&_tpg=1
Magdaline is a mother of nine living in Mile 90, a community just outside of Bamenda, Cameroon. Living there, she has been able to take out five separate loans from GHAPE to be able to expand her farming practices, and also open up her own grocery store.
With this next loan that she is applying for, Magdaline hopes to be able to grow her store, and also support her pig farming practices, a very profitable venture in this area.
She is sure that these activities will be a success because of her prior experience in this business, and also because of the variety of products that she is able to carry in her store. This variety gives people more choices of what to buy, and it attracts them to her business as opposed to others, because of the sheer volume of what she is able to put out for sale in the store.
With the profits of this business, she will be able to continue to support the education and apprenticeship of her children in learning different skills and making their own lives more fruitful because of the empowerment that they have received. Magdaline also plans to put the money that she makes back into the business.
Through the credit and the trainings that she has received, Magdaline has been able to make a notable difference in the life of her family members, and also in the conditions that they are subject to on a daily basis. She originally came to GHAPE because of the low interest rate, but now continues to stay with the organization because of the non-monetary gains that she has received.
Elizabeth Masawe - Dar Es Salaam, Tanzaniahttp://www.kiva.org/app.php?page=businesses&action=about&id=122664&_tpos=14&_tpg=10
Mambo from Tanzania! This is 35-year-old Elizabeth F. Masawe from Dar es salaam .She is married with three children, between the ages 4 and 12. Elizabeth has been running a business of mobile phone accessories. It is amazing how many people have mobile phones in Tanzania. This is probably attributable to the fact that it is the only form of phone communication available to most people, because there are few landlines, and followed closely by how relatively cheap mobile phones are here.
Since 2003 Elizabeth has been working at the business for 9-12 hours per day, seven days per week. She is assisted by two employees. Elizabeth currently earns about 950 USD from her business. She is requesting a loan of 1,500,000 TSH in order to purchase additional stock of mobile phone accessories and vouchers (phone credit). In the future, she plans to increase the quantity and range of stock. Elizabeth thanks you for your support!
